What should I say to the Nobel Prize.  Of course I.m happy, but I'm not a star, I will continue to do my work quietly.

The author didn't expect the Nobel Prize for a good reason.  She says 20 years after the tumbling of the Berlin Wall, I write such a deportation story.  The 56 year old published a story "Atemschaukel" (Breathswing) which depicted the deportation of ethnic Germans at the end of World War II and after 1945 to the Soviet Union.  This was a subject that had long been taboo.   The novel was both heavily criticized, but it also brought the subject to the forefront.

STOCKHOLM — Romanian-born German writer Herta Mueller has the won the 2009 Nobel Prize in literature.

The Swedish Academy, which has picked the winner annually since 1901, said Thursday that Mueller "who with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed."

The prize includes a 10 million kronor ($1.4 million) prize and will be handed out Dec. 10 in the Swedish capital.

I believe this is very well deserved.  Her poetry is striking and any chance the literature community can help poets is a good thing.
