NP Rank:
to Hijab or not-Kuwaiti men poor losers over Kuwati Women win
KUWAIT: An unsuccessful third constituency election candidate yesterday filed a petition to the public prosecution challenging the constituency's election results because the two winning female candidates among the 10 winners do not wear the hijab, or headcover.
------------
The two women have ridiculed the notion that they are violating the law, pointing out that the election law does not specifically stipulate that they should wear the hijab.
Four Kuwaiti women made history in the May 16 election by winning seats. Two of the women wear the hijab while the other two do not. In the last assembly, a number of Islamist MPs walked out of the first session when the two female ministers, Moudhi Al-Humoud and Nouriya Al-Sabeeh, who do not wear the hijab, took the oath in the assembly.
So now, a committee is studying whether not wearing a hijab violates Sharia law and lawsuits have been filed by losing candidates.

Where in the Koran does it say women have to wear hijab's, this is a male led culture thing and nothing to do with religion.

This will always be a problem in the muffling culture I fear ..

Yep.. Rene Spot on as usual .. The Touregs have real sense around camels when sitting close to their arses in camp - PPPhewwwww ... "Pull up your camelbum scarves brother" - they are often heard mumbling..
I am glad to expose the origins of that practice for you Rene ... At one time it was - just stuff the nearest camp rags into your mouth ...
One of my distant Tourag relatives told me in the days of inadequate camp ragggery he accidently grabbed a sleeping Kangeroo Rat .. It did not work .. It bit his tongue in half
(May my Toureg brothers on NowPublic.com I beg, forgive me, and my Toureg sisters really laugh while they do)

My nephew was shoping with his mother and came across a few arab women wearing the garb,The wee soul run away from his mother and the veiled woman screaming thinking they were monsters. These woman are chancing their luck a bit,I just hope they get what is there born given right freedom of expression.Wither they choose to muffle or not.

LOL! Muffling! Muffle those upstarts! Nevertheless I hope the women prevail. Curiously in some of the bedouin tribes, it's the men who muffle, not the women. Touregs?

Seems many of these women not only accept their oppression, but embrace it. (Probably a better choice in their minds than getting beaten or worse, divorced). An American ex-pat living in Saudi Arabia with her Saudi husband blogs about this.
