The History of Gaza: Wikipedia / March 28th
From Wikipedia:
"Strategically located on the Mediterranean coastal route, ancient
Gaza was a prosperous trade center and a stop on the caravan route
between Egypt and Syria. The city was occupied by Egypt around the 15th
century BCE. Philistines settled the area several hundred years later,
and Gaza became one of their chief cities.
Gaza was captured by Arabs in the AC 600s. Believed to be the site where the Prophet Muhammad's
great grandfather was buried, the city became an important Islamic
center. In the 12th century, Gaza was taken by Christian Crusaders; it
returned to Muslim control in 1187. The city fell to the Ottomans in the 16th century and was taken by the British during World War I (1914-1918).
Following World War I, Gaza became part of the British mandate for
Palestine. After the first Arab Israel war in 1948, Egypt took control
over Gaza and its surrounding area. Israel occupied the city and the
Gaza Strip during the 1967 Six Day War, and Gaza remained under Israeli
administration for the next 27 years.
With the onset of the Palestinian uprising known as the intifada in 1987, Gaza became a center of political unrest and confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians, and economic conditions in the city worsened.
In September 1993, leaders of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) signed the Oslo Accords calling for Palestinian administration of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank town of Jericho, which was implemented in May 1994. Most of the Israeli forces left Gaza, leaving a new Palestinian Authority to administer and police the city, along with the rest of the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority, led by Yasser Arafat,
chose Gaza as its first provincial headquarters. In September 1995,
Israel and the PLO signed a second peace agreement extending the
Palestinian Authority to some West Bank towns. The agreement also
established an elected 88-member Palestinian Council, which held its
inaugural session in Gaza in March 1996."

why are world leaders, especially the UN, arab league and some western countries condemning isreal over the recent Isreali airstrikes on Gaza, when it was hamas, who broke the ceaze fire, rained rocket attacks on isreal from Dec24. Were these all daft so called leaders sleeping? I didnt hear anyone call Hamas to order, i didnt hear any condemnations and I didnt hear palestinian protests in gaza, westbank, jordan or lebanon, asking hamas to stop teasing Isreali civilian population with rockets and missiles. It's stupid enjoying murdering other people and expecting no retaliation. I simple believe hamas used the 6month cease fire to harm itself from Iran & Syria, and its time to brandish their arsenal forgeting no one went to sleep during the same period.

Wake Up Findley is a notorious supporter of anti-Israeli organizations. He is one of the lone voices in American politics that has tried to undermine Israel and its existence.

The facts are that Israel was minding her own business when the Arab nations in June 1967 attacked. Israel acquired what is known as the occupied territories. The PLO was supposed to govern Gaza but it was corrupt. Israel invited the people to become citizens and have the same benefits as all Israeli but they didn't want that. The other Arab nations did not invite them to become citizens. Their doctrine is to murder every Jew. So before you believe the if americans knew website Read and Learn.

Israel blockaded all supplies into Gaza. Supplies being basic food, medicine, etc. They forced the Hamas hand, who had been true to their cease fire up until that point.
Starvation makes people do things they wouldn't ordinarily do.
get ALL of your facts next time, Israel is murdering innocent civilians who are taking refuge in schools, hospitals, their homes..and they are being bombed, tear gased, missiled, gunned down, etc... No where is safe for anyone. They don't care whether they are Hamas or not. 1/3 of the casualties so far, have all been children.

No one thinks it is OK for Hamas to kill Israeli's, but what the world condemns is the way Israel retaliates. The scale of violence used against civilians is criminal, as it lead to the deaths of around one thousand people. Moreover the destruction of the houses of family members of "terrorists" is probably a war crime, and all of it has taken place extra judicially. Lastly, the job of stopping these radical rocket-bombers is probably for the paletinian security forces but Israel seems so often to target security offices for destruction. If you destroy the security force you can't expect that force to stop violence. We all want peace, but Israel must abide by the law as well.

it has not started in last month it has been there 4 decades with isreal playing the role of major culprit

Is it true that Hamas has been shooting their missles to "test" into Southern Isreal? If so, they have every right to defend themselves.
at 12:28 on February 16th, 2009
what is true is that israel used white phosphorous against the palestinians. really this is all we should need to know. if israel was iraq... well i guess we know what would happen right?

No nation has every had Jersualem as a Captiol other than Israel. The Gaza has in the past been the resident of lthe Phillistines which had ALWAYS been a thorn in Israel side. Now is it occupied by a group with determination to anilate Israel. The reason for this attack at this point by both sides is the apperance of Sen. Obama as President Elect when in fact he has made is clear that he is NOT clear on this subject which give open door to war by BOTH sides. Let me say they will fight but usually both sides are careful to avoid all out war but that does not appear to be the case at this point.
Stop shooting rockets into Israel and they will be glad to stop blowing up your cities. The occupant of the are were orginally Cannites not Plastinesens By the way that name is the Roman name for the area occupied by Jews. How about that!

Actually Hamas did hold to the cease fire for four months. It is my understanding that during this time Isreal was to allow more food and medical aid into Gaza and they did not do this. Both sides are wrong. Continued war, continued terrorist attacks will only teach the next generation on both sides to hate each other even more. Until both sides admit this does not work and they are both wrong and seek a peaceful solution that will allow them to live and prosper this will continue. Trying to allocate blame is futile and only allows both sides to continue this foolishness. Possible solution .... a total and complete embargo on both sides until it hurts...a lot. Do not allow any movement to or from Israel...no money...no people...no food...no fuel....absolutely nothing (They have already done this to the Gaza strip.) Nothing until there is an agreement to find an alternative solution. Then insist that both sides work on a peace plan that will allow Gaza and Isreal to prosper. The old saying is the man to truly fear is the man without hope. (He/she has nothing left to lose.) Until the people in Gaza have hope of a better future for themselves and their children they will continue to have a reason to fight Isreal. Lets give them hope and give them a reason to believe that they will have a better life if they get rid of the militants and live in peace with Israel.

The original occupants were the Arabs and Phillistines who lived in AC 600s.

Gaza and HAMAS had honored the cease fire agreement until November 5th 2008. While Americans were distracted by the Obama election, Israel launched an unprovoked attack into Gaza killing six members of the HAMAS government.
Following this attack, HAMAS announced that the cease fire was (obviously) no longer in effect. Israel's PR campaign continues to insist ( supported by the White House) that HAMAS is to blame for the escalation of violence.

In 2008 alone over 3,000 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. Claiming specific intelligence reports, on 4 November 2008, Israel invaded the southern part of Gaza near the Rafah refugee camp, killing six people and seizing six others. It is believed that many of the tunnels that serve to import weapons into Gaza were destroyed. Hamas responded by recommencing the firing of home-made rockets, and here we are now. Clearly Hamas is a terrorist organization being funded and trained in Syria and Iran. Hamas is never going to change their ways so Israel just needs to invade, occupy and return Gaza to it's original Jewish state as it was before the Ottoman rule.

After so many years does it really matter who's fault it was this time? Does it really matter who struck first or last? It's this type of mentality that keeps the bombs dropping. It's time for both sides to STOP, take their punches, and retire to their corner. Hatred leads to more hatred.

Right CoolBod, GREAT IDEA. Let's just regress back in time 821 years. While we are at it why don't we just give America back to the British too?!?@ That would follow your logic.
Why can't the Israelis stop being so GREEDY and leave the Palestinians alone and leave them alone on the patch of sand they haven't killed to get back into their grimey hands. What the hell is so important to Israel that they NEED Palestine so bad that it has to kill innocent women and children to make a few more bucks?
at 08:11 on January 4th, 2009
Again, you don't know history. The Israelis are not Greedy. In 1967 they were minding their own business when they were attacked. You are forgetting that ships using the Suez Canal were prohibited from delivering goods to Israel. You are forgetting that Israel does not have oil. You are forgetting that the Israelis were prohibited from going into the old city of Jerusalem. Who are the greedy ones here? Who made a fruitful state out of nothing. Perhaps if the Palestinians stopped hating and got educated they too could make that patch of sand into something fruitful.
at 16:54 on April 29th, 2009
Well, guess what? the rockets that Hamas has been firing have barely killed anyone, whereas Israel has been targetting refuge spots to murder thousands of innocent palestinians. Look at the death toll on both sides and we can tell who the problem is.

To me seems that all these rocket are just to call the attention of the rich Arab people to get money. If they would be in peace, who would care for the so wrongly called Palestinians ( they are Arabs and Palestinians are the initial name for Jews), not even the Arabs.

Stop spamming you fanatical troll. A few instances of unofficial prohibitions does not entitle one to slaughter one's neighbor and prevent it from developing.
at 22:59 on January 13th, 2009
No, you are the one who do not understand the history. Israel occupied Palestinians' land illegally and by force through Britain and some other europe nations consent in the year 1967. Palestinians became the victim and lost their homeland to the stranger. In 1967 Israelis conquered 30% of Palestinians' land and the other 70% remain belong to Palestinians. This illegal invasion was pleased Britain. But now Israelis are trying to expand their land potion while the Palestinians are only defending their rights. The truth is - Israel has no land on the entire earth.
at 10:45 on January 4th, 2009
Ariana you totally miss my point. America is not fighting with Britain, in fact we are strong allies so I am not sure what your correlation is. This is a very complicated and painful situation for all involved and we are not going to find the solution in a paragraph here. If this is such a worthless patch of sand then why do the Palestinians want to be there so bad? Right so they can launch attacks on Israel. Israel is not a threat to Gaza but Gaza is a threat to Israel so the threat must be removed. The Palestinians have had the opportunity to build something for themselves. While I am sure most want a better life, the main focus of Hamas is to destroy Israel. They, along with Iran and Syria, have publicly stated as much. Israel left Gaza and said here you go-build a better life for yourselves. All Israel asked is that no rockets be fired into their cities so they can live in peace. Hamas smuggles in weapons and hides them in mosques and other public places while launching rocket attacks. The people who live there are not blind-they know what is going on but choose to turn their heads either from fear of Hamas or approval of Hamas so they are not entirely innocent. Regrettably innocent lives will be lost but we all make choices and will live and die by those choices we make. Who knows what the real solution is-we haven't found one in over 2000 years and we won't find one anytime soon.
