Lead Singer Of No Angels, Nadja Benaissa Trial Opens: Charged With Inflicting Bodily Harm While Having Unprotected Sex

Nadja Benaissa, a 28 year old German pop singer said "I'm so sorry" at the opening of her assault trial in Darmstadt, Germany.

Nadja Benaissa, the lead singer of No Angels, a German pop band, apologized for her having unprotected sex with a number of sexual partner but the court went on to hear that it was not an admission of guilt.

After the opening of the trial, German news agency DAPD carried a statement from Ms Benaissa's lawyer admitting she had not handled the HIV virus properly, and conceding she had had unprotected sex.

But the singer said: "No way did I want my partner to be infected."

Nadja Benaissa was arrested in 2009 and spent 10 days in jail and has been charged with aggravated assault. If convicted she could face upto 10 years in prison.

HIV/AIDS groups fear that the case would criminalize the transmission of HIV. Benissa explained having unprotected sex in a statement to the court.

"I was told that the chance of the infection breaking out in my case is almost zero... Same low is the risk (sic) that I could infect somebody else with HIV. That was the reason why I did not tell anybody at first because I did not want my daughter to be punished for my behaviour and my infection

There are a lot of people who experience adversity everyday, to impart ones own misfortune on to others is a heinious course of action. But then again one could always rebuke perhaps those potentially contaminated by the young woman should have been more careful and taken more precautions no matter the mood at the time, because as they can boldly see right now, sometimes the consequences are too severe to reverse time and that of a disturbed girl’s point of view…assuming she indeed did willingly conceal her condition at the time.scallywagandvagabond.com/2010/08/german-pop-star-nadja-benaissa-is-on-trial-for-knowingly-spreading-her-hiv-virus/

Sometimes sorry is just not good enough. That woman at the very least should be held responsible for that mans medical expenses and a large chunk of change for the degradation of his personal life. I also think she needs to be made an example of so that other people with HIV realize that no matter what they may think others think of their illness it will pale in comparison to what will happen to them if they risk the lives of others.
