Homage paid to martyrs of Mumbai attack in Mussoorie
Mussoorie also has been affected by the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.Emminent people from mussoorie gathered at nagar palika premises in Mussoorie to pay homage.
MUSSOORIE, 5 Dec: Eminent personalities and common citizens, alike, gathered at the Nagar Palika premises to pay homage to the martyrs of the recent Mumbai attack in a somber ceremony held, here, today.
The ceremony was organised by a non-political organisation “Friends of Uttarakhand”.
The special invitee on the occasion was IG, Intelligence, Anil Raturi along with his wife Radha Raturi, Secretary. The programme was coordinated by Vinod Thapliyal.
The ceremony began with lighting a lamp before pictures of the martyrs by them followed by Sudhir Thapliyal, Manmohan Singh Mall, Station Incharge, Mussoorie police, JP Kukreti and many other citizens of the town.
A Rab, a senior advocate of High Court, said, “Our martyred men, be it from the Police or the NSG, showed exemplary courage in the recent Mumbai attacks, thus saving the lives of many, otherwise the toll could have been much higher.”
Reciting poetry, he said that the people of the nation ought to stand united in paying tribute to the brave hearts who laid down their lives in service of the nation. Dhan Prakash, Member of the Traders’ Association, said that, if as a nation India kept sleeping, the terrorists would take the shroud from the dead bodies, also.
Harbhajan Thukral said on the occasion that the Commandos and the police had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Manmohan Singh Mall, former President of the Nagar Palika, paid his condolences to the bereaved families of the martyrs. He also said that the soldiers of Uttarakhand had always been in the forefront of such terrorist attacks and had sacrificed their lives in all major attacks. The martyrdom of Gajendar Singh Bisht was a recent example. He also said that the politicians ought to rise above politics and act unitedly in fighting terrorism.
Sudhir Thapliyal lamented the role of politicians in failing to curb the menace of terrorism in the country. He lambasted the insensitive attitude of the politicians, who by making derogatory remarks against the martyrs had shamed the nation. He also said that Rs 100 crores were lying with the ministry for buying equipment like bullet proof jackets and modern weapons, but the misappropriation of the fund had led to the death of the senior police officials in Mumbai blast. High quality bullet proof jackets could have saved many lives, he added.
IG Anil Raturi said that the senior police officers who succumbed to the bullets of the terrorist in Mumbai attack were personally known to him and it was a double blow for him. He said that both officers were fine officers and good human beings. He also said on the occasion that the nation has become much stronger after these attacks and the resolve of the countrymen was strong in fighting this menace.
