Homeless In A Town Of Empty Houses
Is it better for empty property to be left to gather dust and mice or for someone broke and broken to "break in" and shelter there for a while ? I spent a bit of time homeless recently , during the winter of 2006 for about two months. Being homeless at christmas time is probably the worst time of year. I was thirty in 2006 so the season had already lost its lustre but watching people in a couple of minutes spend enough money to permanently improve my situation, and all in the name of god, got me to thinking a bit and not always healthyly either. When I had the money I managed to stay in a few flea pit hotels that were always half empty. It is not too wild an assumption to suppose that on any given night in london and many other places that there are far more empty warm hotel rooms than there are people sleeping on the streets. Winter is almost here for my part of the world again. Take a second thought next time you are pouring a litre or two down your gullet that will only come out again the other end a little warmer than before. Think "what could this be better spent on" Apparently there is a squatters association based in london where you can put the address of vacant propertys up on a notice board. That's a pretty good idea. Perhaps similar organisations exist in other places? Feedback please
