Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak told the millions in Cairo's Tahrir Square and the entire Egyptian nation that will not resign as President of Egypt until September.

Saying a peaceful transfer of power is underway, Mr. Mubarak refused to give in to demands of tens of thousands of anti-government protesters who took to the streets for a 17th straight day to demand his immediate resignation.

Demonstrators in Cairo's main Tahrir Square jeered and chanted "get out" during the speech. They had earlier danced in expectation that Mubarak would resign.

Speaking at 10:45 pm Egypt time, Hosni Mubarak said He said he "lived for Egypt and would die for Egypt. I will not be separated from this soil until I am buried underneath it."

Prophetic words perhaps but the stakes have increased in the battle for democracy in Egypt as the anti-Mubarak protesters will likely continue their protests in Tahrir Square.
