Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.
Barack Obama

The bill known as the "American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009," or the "cap and trade bill" as some Americans know it, is to be voted on as early as today, Friday, June 26th, 2009.

This bill would lead to increased expenses for American households of thousands of dollars per year. A recent Congressional Budget Office report estimated that the cost per household would be as little as $175 per year. However, the Heritage Foundation has responded with “CBO Grossly Underestimates Costs of Cap and Trade,” in which they point out that the CBO study assumes nearly 100% of the increased costs for businesses will be rebated to consumers by the federal government (when has this ever happened?) and omits consideration of negative impacts on the economy of thousands of dollars per household per year. Bottom line, don’t rely on the CBO report to be an accurate forecast of the additional costs you’ll be paying each year due to this cap and trade bill. For additional analysis of the Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill, see "The Waxman-Markey Global Warming Bill: Is the Economic Pain Justified by the Environmental Gain?"

UPDATE: H.R. 2454 has passed 219-212.

Who in Washington is going to read 1500 pages referencing the Cap and Trade Bill?  If it passes, it will be suicide for America.

Expect higher taxes soon.

Oh hey, what happened to Obama's promise of government transparency? I thought he would post bills and stuff on the White House website or something.

With the news of Michael Jackson's death, we hear nothing at all about this bill. Yes, it is sad that the King of Pop died, but I believe information on this bill is much more important to the American people.

This bill is a tax increase and a way to control the people of this nation, plain & simple!  It is utter BULLSH_T!  And it MUST be stopped!

Very unfortunate...

"Hey, let's pass stuff without even reading it. Obama's never wrong!"

We are so screwed.

Pundits think that this bill will have a much tougher time passing in the Senate.  Some estimate that this will cost the average family an extra $3000 a year in utility bills if it becomes law.

Is there a website that shows which representatives voted for or against the bill?
