A 3-Alarm Fire Broke Out in Manhattan's East Village July 8: The Blaze is Now Contained

According to the Associated Press, the fire broke out in a building on Houston Street at Avenue A around 5:45pm. The fire was reportedly on the roof of the building and potentially the upper floor. The flames and smoke were visible from many blocks away, but fire officials have not reported any injuries.

This building is thought to be residential with a ground floor business space. It is not known at this time what started the fire.

The area was blocked off as 138 firefighters at the scene worked to control the blaze.
