How to defeat Taliban?
Remember, Taliban isn't a political group, it's an extremist group, a mindset, an ideology which finds roots to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. An ideology which is aimed at expunging the materialistic world no matter what it takes to complete that task. I have a principle, beware of two types of people, one whose upper-glass ie brain is full and ones whose upper-glass is empty, and Taliban are of the former type. Dialogue with them is futile because they won't listen to you, ever.
Every now and then, I find people ranting about Taliban that they are Muslims, remember, they are terrorists, and terrorists have no religion! Also, their movement isn't based on Islam, it's based on their particular ideology, an ideology which finds no roots in Islam. And as Javed Ahmad Ghamdi said, a learned Islamic scholar and former head of the Council of Islamic Ideology - Islamic Republic of Pakistan, we need an ideological warfare against them, not the military one.
Military options have already proven to be void; Taliban is just like a virus, military options just provide a temporary remedy, not a permanent cure. Also, extermination (of Taliban) is in no way a permanent solution of this problem, they are just patients to an ideological disease, killing patients is in no way a guarantee that disease will also vanish.
As per dialogue, it's an option which, in the case of Taliban, should be disregarded at the very first stance, because talking to them is just like talking to a wall ie their ideology doesn't allow them to listen to anyone except THEM.
Now coming to the tactics which should be adopted in this ideological warfare. Main point, never assume military warfare as the ultimate solution, if it had been then US must have succeeded in exterminating these idiots. Rather, take it as an option to create deterrence. Secondly, empower the people, if you can't empower those who are now in direct contact with the Taliban then try to empower those who are the most vulnerable ie the residents of Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan. Poor literacy rates of both the countries especially of those areas which surround where Taliban is currently residing makes them clearly susceptible to the vague ideology of those idiots. Above all, the whole world needs to join hands to tackle this menace before it gets too late.
Last but not the least, we need devotion, all of us, we need a fair play, stop financing Taliban for mere political gains and start empowering the people of Pakistan's tribal areas and Afghanistan and we will surely win this ideological war. But, if the enemies of Pakistan (I don't want to name them, somehow) will continue mischief in these troubled circumstances then one day they too will have to pay the price, like us. Because, we(Pakistan) and the US once used them and are paying the price, learn from the history, don't let it repeat itself.
