How to Defend Yourself Properly

Today, there is a lot of information out there on how to protect yourself. There are classes you can take, there are products you can buy, but how many of you are actually doing these things? If you don't have the time to take a self-defense class, at least get non-lethal self-defense products to keep you save, should you become the next 1.3 million people a year that have a crime committed to them. Here are some products that are recommended to keep you safe and not permanently harm your attacker as well as other tips when being attacked.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
Step 1

At minimum, if you have no self-defense products currently and maybe not a big budget, you need a pepper spray. A pepper spray will take an assailant down within seconds and keep him there for over 30 minutes with his eyes shut. They are inexpensive, averaging between $10-$25 per bottle and have a range between 4-15 ft, depending on the spray you get.

Step 2

There is also the option of getting a stun gun. Stun guns are great because when you stun someone the electrical current wont come back on you, and your attacker will be down for at least 30 minutes giving you plenty of time to get away. Stun guns use an electrical current that makes the muscles act really fast and depletes them of needed blood sugars, which is a very painful process.

Step 3

You can also choose to buy a taser. Please note that you must register this product and go through a background check. Many police and military units use these as a way of force protection without actually killing the other party. A taser will run anywhere from $300- $999.

Now all this is fine, but it wont do you any good if you don't follow the following safety tips:
1. Don't hitch hike- this may seem like common sense, but for some reason people still do it anyways. This is one of the easiest ways to throw yourself into danger, so by all mean, keep yourself from getting into a situation where you need to hitch hike.

2. If you are in a situation where you are attacked, you need to have good reflexes and act quickly enough, otherwise all the weapons in the world and self-defense classes wont be able to help you, if you are not quick enough to save yourself.

3. when going out at night, always walk with a group of people, you are less of a target than if you were alone, or much worse a woman alone.

4. Pay attention to your surroundings.

5. Don't wear expensive jewelry when you are walking down the street. That is as good as asking for a mugging.

I hope you find my tips useful, there are many resources for information online. Use it, don't let something happen to you before you become aware of just how important keeping yourself truly safe is.
