Human Genome Project Announces That "Race" Does Not Exist
WaPost Headline Declares, "Race a Dominant Theme at Summit: Subject Seen as Drawing Leaders Closer", with WaPost Using the Word "Race" Nine Times in One Article.
Although many people, particularly the white-news media, act as though they are unaware of it, the Human Genome Project has proved that "race" is a fallacy with no basis in science.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Biological and Environmental Research, Human Genome Program,
DNA studies do not indicate that separate classifiable subspecies (races) exist within modern humans. While different genes for physical traits such as skin and hair color can be identified between individuals, no consistent patterns of genes across the human genome exist to distinguish one race from another. There also is no genetic basis for divisions of human ethnicity. People who have lived in the same geographic region for many generations may have some alleles in common, but no allele will be found in all members of one population and in no members of any other.
In other words, while the concept of separate human sub-species called "races" was developed four hundred years ago, during a time when white supremacists and the slave trade were seeking to justify the enslavement of Blacks, as well as the social, economic and political exaltation of whites, however, the most recent in-depth study of human DNA ever completed has shown that "race" does not exist.
This certainly ought to be news, particularly in light of how often the word "race"continues to be used by the white-news media.
For example, in a Washington Post article entitled, "Race a Dominant Theme at Summit: Subject Seen as Drawing Leaders Closer", I saw and counted the word "race" used nine times, discussing the importance of "race" for President Barack Obama's trip to the Latin American summit.
Considering that "race" has been proved not to exist as a matter of scientific Government-approved fact, one would expect that the news media would begin using alternate words to refer to factors that DO exist, like skin color. But, the news media (and many Black bloggers) still stubbornly insist that "race" exists after the theory of its existence has been utterly disproven.
I know the news media's motive. They are trying to help us Blacks to maintain our sense of identity in a rapidly changing world. Yeah, right! :) In fact, they are trying to help WHITES maintain their sense of superior identity in a rapidly changing world -- a world in which science is utterly disproving the fundamental theories of biology upon which white supremacy has been based.
When people say, "my race", they might as well be saying "my fairy wings" as far as science is concerned. For example,
"I am black, and what affects my race affects me," says Bennett, who also works part-time in criminal defense. "I feel that I am exposing things that people, black and white, try to hide. In my own way I am trying to force an honest debate and open dialogue." LATimes
Of course, if you remove the phrase "my race" and insert the phrase "my skin color group", then the laudable statement of solidarity makes perfect political sense. It also makes biological sense, because "skin color" is something that actually exists.
In light of the findings of the Human Genome Project, the American Journal of Color Arousal still uses the term "racist" but redefines it:
A "racist" is "a person, organization or institution continuing to believe in, advocate, perpetuate or passively accept the proposition that there are separate 'races' among the human species, in spite of all of the well-known Human Genome Project evidence that separate human "races" do not exist.
The continued use of the word "race", regardless of how or why it is used, will inevitably lead to prolonged belief in the unscientific fallacy of separate "races" within the human species, with a continued reluctance to adjust to the biological, social and political ramifications of the new genomic evidence.

I can full hardily agree with that Race does not exist. However prejudice and fear does.
DNA and RNA studies have given us the final proof that there is only one Humanity.
The next step to would be to deal with mythologies and religions.
More difficult then Science.

One humanity came from one couple, Adam and Eve.
I.E. religion.

Since race is a social construct and is in the same context as "the world is flat" or "the planet was created in 6-7 days", the article makes sense. Because of this construct, the human species has its problems...

I’m at a bit of a loss to think how this piece of information will change anything.
What about, say, Jews? Their skin color may not differ from a KKK member’s but they would still be discriminated against – is that racist under the old and/or new definitions? What about Ghanaian and Nigerians who, apparently, have little respect for each other? http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-17025.0.html is this racism? Was it ever a question of ‘race’ alone? Wasn’t it always skin colour and ethnicity? If we take out race, where does that leave us? I suggest the world has not changed at all.

Race does not exist. However culture and its cultural artefacts does exist. Frequently people express prejudice based on culture and cultural practices. But, culture is a learned behavior. It has no basis in genetics either. Race is no longer a sacred cow--but then neither is culture. If we stop classifying people based on the erroneous and nonexistent classification of race, we are now free to deal with the reality of culture--and culture can be changed. Not all cultures are worth saving or valuing. Many cultures contain values and practices that are inhumane and anti-human rights (e.g. the treatment of women in islamist and machista cultures). So now that we are free of the illusion of race, we can deal with the reality of culture and change those cultural practices that are detrimental to the advancement and humane treatment of all humans.

I think the 'Genome Project' is an important landmark, just as most studies that disprove long standing beliefs through science. Until we have more brain research data on the patterns of evolving character, that take into account the contribution of both nature & nurture....I'm afraid we are still wallowing in the dark. President Obama is an example of what can happen to family groups across the world...when cultures (skin color) collide and love is involved, leaps of compassion happen and those involved are forever changed. As a 25 year veteran educator in the public system, I can attest to the dislocation of learning due to limiting family belief systems. Only through consistent opportunities to engage in open discussions and experiences on/in the differences of culture will nurture a true change in attitude. Although children are egocentric, they are not BIGOTS until taught to be one.

Do you not realize that by writing this arcticle and refering to yourself as black and others as WHITE you are further perpetuating the existance of seperate races and placing us as the other? I userstand the nessessity for the Human Genomes' findings to be spread, but placing it within this context seems counter-productive.

Bob, when I refer to myself as Black and other as white I am simply stating the matter of fact that color exists and each of us has a skin color. Now, it's true that we have a custom in the United States of ignoring the actual skin color of people and instead lumping people into binary groups. That is reflective of an "us and them" mentality.
However, when I say "Black" I am not referring to a skin color. (Very few if any people are actually as black as the typeface on this page.) I'm referring to a very much cohesive political and cultural entity when I use the word "Black". Polls show that people's opinions about certain things, for example whether there is color aroused discrimination in the United States, quite predictably show a great big difference in opinion associated with the skin color of the person answering the question.
People whose skin color is not white in the United States form affiliations and solidarity around many issues as a matter of survival. That's a political and social reality. At the same time, when I use the word "Black" I hope you don't misunderstand me and believe I am referring to that specious concept of "race". I'm referring to a social and political grouping for which skin color is an imperfect but important marker. "Race" has nothing whatsoever to do with what I'm saying.

By your continued finger-pointing at the "white media" (which, except for Fox news, essentially no longer exists in this day and age of the exalted token-Black), you prove that even up from your soap box, you're as much of a "racist" as those you seek to shine your would-be science-light on. Race doesn't exist, true story. Stop blaming solely white media when there are black interests groups for everything under the sun, in a world where a white interest group will immediately be held up as a neo-KKK.
