Human remains were found yesterday in a wooded area not far from Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, and police are investigating.

Police spokesman Wayne Gilbert said investigators have not yet determined the age, race or gender of the person whose remains were found around 4:30 p.m. in a wooded area near the intersection of South Independence Boulevard and Holland Road.

Gilbert said the person who found the remains called 911 to report them. Police determined that the remains were indeed human, but that's as far as investigators were able to get on Tuesday.

An Investigation is on going the police are still on the scene. The remains are to be removed this morning. With the missing teens in Tidewater it's hard to say who it is dental  records are going to have to ID this person also facial reconstruction according to the police department.

Investigators have removed the human remains found Tuesday at Mount Trashmore.

Police spokeswoman Margie Long said investigators and forensic technicians have been working all day to collect evidence from the scene.

The the skeletal remains were taken to the medical examiner's office Wednesday afternoon.

Landscapers found the bones Tuesday near Holland Road and Independence Blvd. and called police.

The owner of landscape business says his crew was working around noon and came across what they believed were bones, including a skull, and that there also was tattered clothing nearby.

Officers were on the scene throughout the night.

The search area is between a car dealership and the parking lot for Coastal Training Technologies.

Investigators hope to use DNA, dental records, and facial reconstruction to identify the person.

The landscaping worker who spotted the remains said it was a very bad experience.

“I've never seen a dead body before so it wasn't appealing for anybody to look at. Hopefully I wont' see nothing like that again."

The manager of the landscaping company told 13News the skeleton appeared to be that of a woman, but the gender of the remains has not been confirmed by authorities.

Police say human remains found in the woods earlier this week are that of a black woman.

That’s the finding of a preliminary examination by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Authorities don’t know who she is or how she died, but they say she was wearing a white/grey cotton T-shirt, “Lee” brand blue jeans size 10 and white cotton socks.

The remains were found by a landscaping crew Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area on Studio Drive.

The remains continue to be examined for further identification and investigative purposes.
