SAHRA chair, & film maker Roger Nair, attended the 200th  Anniversary of the " First Independent Government in Buenos Aires " this evening at the National Club in Toronto and while congratualating the Argentian Govt. and its people discussed the Human rights situation with the Argentinian Consul general Julio Miller.
Revolution in Buenos Aires in 1810, was considered the first step towards independence .
The May Revolution  was a week-long series of revolutionary events that took place from May 18 to May 25, 1810, in Buenos Aires, capital of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, a colony of the Spanish Empire which included the present-day nations of Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. The consequences of these events were the ousting of Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros and the establishment of a local government, the Primera Junta (First Junta) on May 25. These events are commemorated in Argentina as "May Week" (Spanish: Semana de Mayo).

Mjr .Ted Opitz, the Senior Advisor to Hon. Minister Jason Kenney (GTA) also Congratulated both Mr. Nair on SAHRA's efforts and congratulated Mr. Miller on the 200th Anniversary of Día de la Revolución de Mayo. Mjr. Opitz also made it a point to commend the Argentian-Canadian community for its positive contributions to Canada on behalf of the Government of Canada.
