NP Rank:
Humanity Comes full circle as the Earth turns.
The Irony of the World and its radical movements through out History.
We had it all, war, oppression, injustice, resistance, terrorism, and we had it from all sides as well as in all eras. Where could we start with the Romans maybe? Alternatively, shall we go back to the Egyptian Empire, maybe even to Lucy to first Human Fossil fund on the African Continent?
Where did it all start? Well about 70,000 years ago as less then 2000 Human where still alive after a deluge of cataclysmic events. From those Humanity evolved and eventually spread out around the World. Making us all relatives and Cousin to one another.
Has with all families, all goes well as long as the unity is preserved either through a strong bond such a Love and compassion or due to a great Patriarch or Matriarch that keeps the lot from destroying each other and settles all disputes and animosities before they can get out of proportion and cause a divide.
Failing that we usually end up with people killing one another for reasons such as, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth (deadly sin), Wrath, Envy, and Pride.
Those are mentioned in many religions and believes through out human history, even Karl Marx did try to implement them into his "Dass Kapital." as he saw that religions do not longer function in a global and industrialized world. Many factors come into play here such as Weather, Climate, habits and food, that have all changed us over the course of time and we adapted in turn to our specific environments. Creating some physical differences from one another over the course of the last 70,000 years before the industrial revolution and modern communication as well as modern travel came about, that are now allowing us to move from one end of the globe to the other with in hours rather then Generations as it used to be the case for our ancestors.
We did even adapt our religions and believes to our environment such as the believe that Hell is a purgatory for instance, coming from the middle east where the heat can get to you. However, the Nordic faith believed hell to be a place of Ice and freezing torture. Today though most are no longer aware of those origins and maybe why we have such great miss conceptions and miss understandings.
Even the basic structures of religions have through out history and civilizations remained the same, the ancient Gods have just been replaced with Saints and angels, and the centre has shifted from the Earth or Nature being the Creator and all mighty being to an abstract God. Yet the basic structures and fundamental believes have remained the same, even the grievances are still the same.
We have adapted not only physically to our environment, we have also adapted our cultures and religions to our environment and society, as well as to our knowledge of any given time was incorporated and subsequently changed us. To a point that at times we had to struggle, since the reality of our newly acquired knowledge and environment was in direct conflict with our religions or believe and social structures. This gave us terrifying war at times, between those that did hold on to the old and refused to adapt to the new reality and those that chose to evolve and adapt. Still to this day we have these sorts of struggles around the World and even with in our self’s.
Yet when ever we fail to evolve and progress we are set back and at times even exterminated by our own decision refusing to adapt to the new reality or realities.
The World has changed dramatically over the past six centuries and more so over the last one hundred years. Yet, many of us humans are still holding on to old perceptions and doctrines that conflict with the reality of today.
Some of our conflicts are directly linked to the lack of logic and foresight, and the refusal to evolve, such as the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Iraq. This not only with the victims, moreover also with victors such as the US, GB and others. Both failing to face reality and embracing change as positive necessity.
The problem is that on one hand the dominant powers have not evolved and adapted to their new realities and fail to lead adequately and on the other hand we have groups that fail to embrace the new fund knowledge and realities holding on to old dogmas and perverting them to suit their needs and cover up their fears.
Fear being the main problem here, fear of the future, fear of questioning once dogmas and fear of evolving into a new renewed humanity. Holding on to outdated ideas such as religion, racism, nationalism and patriarchies or matriarchies, that do no longer apply nor can they be justified any longer since our knowledge has progressed and evolved where as we have not yet done so our self, at least not in the masses, why most of humanity will have to be decimated by it self no less into oblivion so that the rest may be able to keep on evolving.
Ultimately, it will mean that 80% of humanity will have to be destroyed. Moreover, those remaining will be the once that are able to learn and adapt as well as evolve. In this day and age it wont be the strong and rugged once, nor the war mongers or orthodox, holding on to dogmas, but the intellectuals in Science and engineering, for they are the only once that will ultimately be able to cope and build the tools needed for survival. For them self. Other factors of course come into play here as well. Further, Humanity may be replaced all together with some new form of intelligence that in turn may be more suited to evolve and reach it's full potential one day.
In a way, Nature will weed out all that it can no longer use and all those that cause to great of a harm to it. Since they failed to evolve and police them self, Nature of wish we are an integrated part will do the job for us. Maybe then we will learn and be able to manage our self properly.
We have wasted precious time and opportunities over the past Century to do the right things and make the right decisions, now it is time to face the consequences, sadly so though we are not as smart as we though we where as Humans.
We can not even manage to solve the eternal Israeli-Palestinian conflict due to some of us holding on to fear, dogmas and powers, wish they do not deserve, for they lack the Wisdom to use them properly.
We failed to police our birth rates and avoid unnecessary pollution, all that in spite of ample warnings and signs to push us into the right directions. We persisted and refused to evolve. Now we have to face reality for the natural mechanisms will take over and do some major weeding out in order to re-establish the balance. Maybe, just maybe then, we will learn and embrace reality as is and find wisdom.

thought provoking paschen. ah, but the 'intellectuals in science and engineering' ...how will they survive from the onslaught of those who have marauded and corroded the earth. they will also be bearing the brunt together with the unintelligent, careless, indifferent or greedy ones as nature is not going to weed out selectively.
at 02:36 on March 2nd, 2009
Space ships maybe? or Domes day voltes? They are the only once that can master the science and technology. If not we may have a new specie evolving all together that can reach its full potential. This all may be unless we manage to get our act together wish is rather unlikely in view of recent events.
The Video link at the end of the post puts it all into perspective.

An all out clean-up of planet Earth would be a good thing. The mess created now is very difficult to solve. Too many people with too many different ideas and interests will not co-operate together never ever. Let's wait for the total collapse the clever and strong ones will survive and hopefully be clever enough thereafter to co-operate with each other?
at 07:13 on March 2nd, 2009
Would it not be nice if we smarten up instead and fix our mess?
at 03:20 on March 2nd, 2009
Did you write this or did I? lol
Its a great piece of free thinking and yes your right on track about humanity however I think the needle get stuck as religion has just changed it's color but stays in the same rut.
I really can not understand how so many people can be indoctrinated even the most intelligent people end up in the non scientific un-logic religious trap.
But of course the indoctrination was planted to be virus related from one generation to another.
I really wish that human kind was prone to believe indoctrination that has no scientific logic attached. The many of same indoctrinated people are raring to recruit and indoctrinate others with their own indoctrination. Then those people that want to spread hate about other religious indoctrination.
Its quite simple to see why there is trouble in the middle east. Why their is so much hate, man is his own worst enemy due to those that lead and those that follow down the paths of cruelty, hate that lead to wars.
The circles of mans cruelty, evil and greed and gullibility have been recorded into history, however does human kind learn by its mistakes?
No! and that's shows the stupidity of the flocks and the cunning-ness of the elitist leaders. It's very sad that we are not fully civilized nor truthful humane, controled by the taint of the survival of the fittest and the greed and selfish genes.

Well, Babel-Fish I am with you on that wishing part. I wish as well and I know a great many people that did all they could to make that happen and yet it seems we are loosing the battles as well as the War, so to speak.

This is a good post, which sets out admirably the threats to modern civlisation that must sooner or later be dealt with.
Because, if we do not deal with those threats, they will quite simply transform themselves into reality.
The writing is on the wall. It's time we read it....
at 07:19 on March 2nd, 2009
Thank you Fripouille, Yes the writing has been on the wall for some time now.
The first Science report on the environmental degradation due to industrialization alone dates from as early as 1867. This was a British Report and it warned already back then that we can not support this pollution and way of life should it expand.
at 07:59 on March 2nd, 2009
As you say Paschen, this problem has been diagnosed for a long time.
Moreover, on the subject of pollution and the British Industrial Revolution, which was the first and biggest single precursor of modern pollution problems, we have quite simply not assimilated since then that what is invented is very difficult to destroy.
It's possible, of course, and doing it may well be forced upon us by the mess we're making of the planet. Let's hope we do this first, before nature does it for us.........

I do not think that destruction will help here. We need to build up on what we have and use the knowledge wisely. making a long term plan for recovery and disaster management. Putting once head into the sand is not going to help us, nor will getting mad and breaking every thing do the trick.
Some will have to pay with their very lives for this to work. Yet it is possible to avoid a disaster should we want to.
at 08:19 on March 2nd, 2009
lol! I meant "destroy" in the figurative sense Paschen, not as in the physically "bust it all up" sense, unless we're talking about nuclear weapons :) Destroying them via dismanteling them would be a cool thing to do...although the genie is already out of the bottle, and we can't disinvent known technology, unfortunately. We can only change our use of it, and stop employing it in harmful ways.....

I am glad, I was almost afraid we had to endure the fait of the Roman all over again and not learn from the mistakes the German made by running them into the ground and putting the World back by a millennia. :)

Here we are at the crossroads of human civilization once again with the world's best philosophers sidelined while those possessing the tools of fear and ego make the decisions for the collective society. It is a shame that although we posses alternative tools and methods that will allow us to make better choices collectively, we don't; we will learn one day. It is also a shame that although the mistakes of history are repeated over and over again, we continue to walk off the same cliff face like a group of lemmings; perhaps we will become more intelligent one day. It is depressing to notice these trends, but to attach to that mentality is to become another mindless creature walking amidst the greatness surrounding us; the elk, the bear, the coyote, the eagle do not have these feelings. I do not know how to stop us from destroying ourselves; but we seem determined to do just that; perhaps we will stop just in the brink of time.
From my time walking around in the American Southwest, I have found a sense of peace in the ruins of ancient American civilizations. The lessons locked away in the stone, when unlocked became part of who I was to become. The Hopi, like the Aztec, believe in successive worlds that are periodically destroyed by natural calamity or human ignorance. 'Our' world is but another link in this timeline. It hurts to be aware of these things now, but the Buddhists believe that suffering is part of the process of life. The suffering does not have to cause pain if we accept that it is part of the nature of reality; the pain only comes from attachment to things that we wish would be.
Thank you for this post.
at 16:03 on March 2nd, 2009
The Buddhist have in deed a very wise outlook on the world and humanity and the Aztec as we today failed to use their knowledge and Wisdom to avoid a their demise, mind you the Spaniel did give them the last push. Great Comment thank you.

So sad!!! we have obviously made a total mess of everything. If we would just embrace God's love and his perfect plan for each of us through his only son Jesus the true Messiah of the ages , we could enter into the millennium reign of Christ tomorrow.
who knows what's best for us?

I liked your story, have you seen the movie "Instinct" with Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding, Dominion comes to my mind alot of times, people are not happy unless others conform to their own beliefs, sad world. I think Shaw made a quote something like this "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world the unreasonable man adapts the world to himself, therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man" that quote always made sense to me.
at 20:42 on June 6th, 2009
Sorry I have not seen that movie, Maybe I should. :)

We should use natural resource with highest responsibility and take care of our closest environment. Do you see that happening? Unfortunately not. When too many people don't do anything else than littering the road sides with their personal rubbish from soft drink tins till cigarette butts, how is proper responsible discipline and coordination effectively executed? Despite all good efforts of still a minority, humanity continues on the down-hill road till nature shows it is finished. Hopefully the survivors have learned their lesson and will become the mentors of the newer evolution.
