Hundreds gather for vigil outside abortion clinic in Ottawa

Two decades after a medical abortion became legal in Canada, abortion rights advocates and anti-abortion activists alike marked the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling that allowed medical professionals to help women end their pregnancies.A campaign was organized by members of the coalition who prayed and fasted for 40 days or 960 hours in the hopes of ending abortion. Throughout the campaign, the coalition rallied outside the Bank St. abortion clinic.
Twenty two years ago Debbie Fisher says she killed her daughter by having her torn apart limb-by-limb.
She was never convicted for homicide but, according to the 53-year-old woman, she was given a life sentence of guilt.
It was in 1986 that Fisher says she had an abortion after leaving an abusive spouse.
Last night, the Brampton native was in Ottawa as a speaker to mark the end of the 40 Days for Life campaign organized by the Campaign Life Coalition Ottawa, an anti-abortion association.
"I should have known better. I am 53 years old today. Today, I would have a daughter of 22 years of age. I would have her today if you (anti-abortion supporters) had been there," said Fisher to a crowd of an estimated 250 people, who gathered across from an abortion clinic on Bank St. last night to hold a candlelight vigil.

Sanjay, you have brought up a controversial subject. Would you mind commenting on it?
At the very least, it will spark hearty conversations. And that is good newsreporting.
I believe a woman should have access to information, but at the end it should be a decision between her,her doctor, and her God of her understanding. The women's clinics provide non-biased support, going over all the options and will even provide counselling before any decision of abortion is made. Twenty two years ago it wasn't the same. Now women make informed decisions about this issue.

I think a woman has the right to decide what to do in such a case, but as sara star said, she must be well informed on what she is up to do.. and what the consequences would be for both her and her unborn child.
