On Friday, one of our financial coordinators passed away. Her husband John Rigdon have been diligently translating the Bible to Creo for the Haitian people. Lorianne Rigdon was an essential part of Lakemont Presbyterian Church in Augusta Georgia. In lieu of flowers she wanted all of the money that would be spent on flowers to be sent to mission to Haiti  If you would like to help Haiti please click this link  Please mention Ms. Rigdon

THE death toll in Haiti has climbed beyond 500 people after the area was hit by a hurricane.
While Hurricane Hanna did little damage as it raced past the Bahamas and posed only a moderate threat to the US East Coast, the death toll in Haiti has risen steadily as the floods unleashed by its torrential rains began to recede.

At least 495 bodies have been found in the mud-heaped port city of Gonaives, where thousands survived by climbing on rooftops, bringing the death toll to 529.

Ships and planes have begun to arrive with desperately needed aid for Haiti, which has been hit by three deadly storms in less than a month.

US authorities declared a state of emergency, several North Carolina beach communities were under evacuation orders and campgrounds were shut.

Storm alerts were issued from Georgia to New Jersey, as the eighth tropical storm of the hurricane season threatened the East Coast with flash flooding.

And Hurricane Ike initially looked far more threatening. However, it weakened as it charged across the Atlantic on Friday.

The US National Hurricane Center said Ike was expected to remain a "major" storm of Category 3 or higher.

A Personal Note: I still have not received information on the children I support,  Alaxandia Gabreil and Propere Levenson the two children Kathy and I support.  Please keep them in your prayers.  Thanks

All we're getting in New York this weekend is a rainstorm, so it's hard to guage just how hard this is hitting our coastal neighbors to the south:

Tropical Storm Hanna barreled across the southeastern United States on Saturday, battering the coast with waves, rain and wind and prompting thousands of people to seek refuge inland.

As Hanna struck, Florida's governor urged residents to prepare for an even more powerful storm, Hurricane Ike, which threatened the neighboring Bahamas and Cuba.

Hanna, which has already left hundreds dead in Haiti , triggered emergency operations along more than 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) of the North and South Carolina coastline.

North Carolina Governor Mike Easley has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Hanna as well as Hurricane Ike, which may hit the coast within days. The state's Department of Crime Control and Public Safety advised people to store up to five days' worth of food and water and to stay off the roads during the storm.

The funeral was difficult.  I tought the son in 5th grade.  John has been translating fro english to crea.  Now loraine is gone to a better place.  She was quite ill.  The family wanted an money to be sent to mission-to Haiti as they have depleted funds... this has never happened.  I may travel to haiti to help with releif.  I am hoping my health can make it.
