One Person Has Been Killed and At Least 10 Are Hurt After a Tour Bus Crashed Off I-270 in Bethesda MD

Three people were originally trapped inside the bus that appears to have driven off the northbound HOV ramp before falling 45 feet to land on I-270 in Bethesda. NBC is reporting that the bus rolled several times down an embankment. According to the Washington Post, this is the ramp that comes from the direction of the Old Georgetown Road and the outer loop of the Beltway.

The injured were taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.

Ronna Borenstein, a spokeswoman for Suburban Hospital, said 11 patients were brought there. She said two adults were in fair condition and that five adults and four children were in good condition.

The bus is owned by Wolf's Bus Line from York Springs, Pennsylvania and the Associated Press is reporting that the bus was carrying parents and children, but it is not known at this time who was killed.

Scott Graham, spokesman for Montgomery County fire and rescue, said the bus was carrying 20 passengers when it was involved in an accident with several vehicles.

Traffic is backed up in both directions on the American Legion Bridge and motorists coming from Virginia are experiencing significant delays.
