Am Become Death: Atomic Bomb Dropped 8/6/1945

Today in history, on this day August 6, 1945, U.S. bomber, the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima Japan killing over 80,000 and injuring tens of thousands more.

President Harry Truman made the decision to end the war because Japan had not unconditionally surrendered.

Truman felt that a prolonged war with Japan and our allies having to fight them on the mainland would cause mass casualties, so at 8:16 a.m. Japanese time the bomb was dropped.

The name of the atom bomb was called “Little Boy,” and a subsequent bomb named “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki Japan a short while later.

Over 60,000 more Japanese would die from radiation fallout within a year’s time from the first blast.

Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who worked on the bomb quoted from the Bhagavad-Gita.

“We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” I suppose we all thought that one way or another.”

They dropped the second bomb 3 days later… After they had already surrendered. That’s pretty inhumane and undiplomatic if you ask me.

The emperor did not announce his surrender until August 12th, and it was not made official until the 14th. That sounds pretty inhumane and undiplomatic to me.

letting hundreds of thousands of american marines and army servicemen die in the invasion of japan would be pretty inhumane and undiplomatic

the japs had it coming, allying with the nazis

@ mike…..Next I suppose you will blame G.W. Get your history facts down a bit better.Then search a bit more at the Un-human atrocity’s that the Japanese did during their short attempt of world domination.The numbers match or exceed in some counts ( Yes, we are talking 10’s of millions of people slaughtered through out the south pacific ) what the Germans did.Was the dropping of “the bomb” horrible? Without a doubt…But much less then what would have happened if that war continued.
