I am now officially scared of my country. What happened to America?

I don't know what to do anymore, forget Mccain and Obama What has this country come to, what have we become.
As I read the post on ireport, and all around the web, its nothing but foolish lies against Obama and Mccain. People are down right making up stories now and putting them out as fact.
What has happened to this country, what have we become that this is acceptable and allowed. What would our founders think of this. How many people have died for the very freedom that we take for granted. Is this what we are passing down to our children. Are we teaching them to lie to achieve their goal. We have already taken away their faith in the justice system, electoral system and politics.
How do we look ourselves in the face each day and then spread lies and enhanced rumors. The media grabs on and doesn't make it clear that its false or true.
We are fighting wars with no cause, we are playing tag with Osama bin Laden, our economy is trashed so bad, people from Europe come here to shop because the dollars is worthless, Our kids are out of control and I mean white kids as well as blacks and every other race.
We have an important election coming up and we are arguing over race, and gender. We find it more important to pick a woman to get votes instead of someone truly qualified (and I mean there are many more not as attractive woman that where more qualified then Palin and many men that where more qualified).
I guess this is the beginning of the downfall of this country. All great empires have eventually come to an end. We have just made the process faster.
I wonder how we tell Iraqi people that we are going to teach them how to build and run a country and we have failed at it ourselves.
We where once so great, What happened to America.
