Ian Stafford, Ex-Mayor in UK, Arrested For Undie Thefts

Ian Stafford, the former mayor of a Lancashire town in the UK, was arrested for breaking into women's homes, wearing and stealing their undies.

The 58-year-old bachelor resigned as Mayor of Preesall in Lancashire with three counts of burglary in connection with women's underwear. Female residents of the area had been calling the police to report their underwear disappearing from their homes. Local police then launched an investigation and retrieved a collection of underwear from Statfford's that was allegedly matching those reported stolen.

Investigators said one woman used a security camera to record a male suspect in the act of rifling through her drawers, putting on her underwear and performing a sex act.

“This will come as a surprise to anyone who knows him,” the Sun quoted Jill Marr, 63, who worked with him as a Mayoress, as saying. “I always thought of him as a very quiet man who was a regular church-goer and very popular in the village. He was always extremely courteous and polite to me,” she said.

Stafford has been bailed and will appear in Court on September 14.
