Idiot of the Day Award: Turnstile Jumper Caught with Machine Gun
33 year old Allen Reggie won't be applying to Mensa anytime soon. The South Carolina man was charged by police after trying to bring 2 loaded weapons, including a loaded Intratec Luger Tec-9 machine gun and a Smith and Wesson 45 on to the Times Square city subway at 42nd and 8th Avenue on January 1 2012.
The folly of attempting to carry such heavy artillery without notice in one of most heavily guarded subway stations during the New Year's weekend is unfathomable by most thinking human beings. Yet, according to the police report, Reggie was stopped not because of the weapons, which were concealed by the suspect, but when the boneheaded tourist tried to jump the turnstile with a loaded Smith and Wesson 45 tucked into his pants to evade the $2.25 subway fare. His clumsy turnstile jumping caught the attention of the police, who, not surprisingly found the weapons and arrested Reggie.
It is unknown at this time if Reggie had any sinister subway plans with the weapons, or why, if he could afford two guns and a whole heap of ammunition why he failed to budget $2.25 to legally get his ride. It is clear that his ill-fated fare evasion will cost him much more than a few dollars and change. He is currently being held by the NYPD on a number of charges.
