If you make $500/hour as a sex worker, are you really a victim?

Prostitution in the vast majority of the U.S. is illegal. Period. Even when there is no victim. Now if someone is forced into prostitution, than yes, there is a clear victim. If someone is underaged. If someone can't reasonably consent. In all these cases, go after those who victimize these women or girls. But, I have a hard time understanding how a woman who consents for sex and makes $500 an hour, is a victim, in anyway.

 I wish I could make $500 an hour. I have hardly made that much money in all the columns I have written for the Examiner, and believe me, I spent a lot longer than one hour writing them all. This New York City sex worker worked for the "soccer mom" Anna Gristina, who is now on trial.

See, crimes should have an actual victim. If they don't, than they don't make any sense. Crimes without victims are well, stupid. They are a waste of resources, tax dollars and waste the freedoms and liberties of the people charged. They than just become a reflection of the things that people who support these laws, don't like. Yes, some people don't like the idea that other people have sex for money, even very willingly. But if liberty means something, it should mean that others can get pretty wealthy off of doing things that you personally might not like, if nobody is harmed.

This prosecution is simply, idiotic. There are adultery laws still on the books of this nation. There are bans on sex toys in Alabama. Religious reactionaries want to reimpose anti-sodomy laws on gay men. In 2012, much of our nation's laws are still focused on regulating the sex lives of adults. It's absurd and it should end.
