This is more politics as usual.

The leaders of government

and opposition verbally attack

each other in speeches at a major

event.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff got off the first volley in front of about 700 at a Stampede breakfast.

He blasted Prime Minister Stephen Harper for negative attack ads and said the Liberals are a solid alternative for people fed up with the way the Tories are running the country.

The government needs to act on its stimulus package, get public finances under control and figure out a way to supply medical isotopes to everyone in Canada who needs a test or treatment, Mr. Ignatieff said.

Well I'm disgusted with attack ads too.  I think they should all be talking about the issues that concern us.  All of them have to stop playing one upmanship.  I want to see good debates where those that oppose do so because they have a better plan (or at least think they do) and present their alternative vision.

The incumbent (in this case, the Conservatives) should substantiate what they are doing and get away from discrediting the opposition with attack ads.

Why do they use attack ads?  My view is that most people only look at sound bytes and video clips in the news.  They don.t bother examining the issues.  That is why attack ads work.

I have voiced my discontent with these ads to my Member of Parliament.

Attack ads work.  People remember sensational charges even if they are disproved.

I would like to see them banned but that is not possible.

I just turn them off.

Informed voters would help get rid of them.

Yeah... the stupids cry foul louder every time. Unfortunately the ordinary men and women in the street don't understand the difference between reality and what is superimposed on them. In a democracy numbers do count not the well meant intentions and initiatives. No way to change that, only trying to be more clever then the opposite, that cried foul. Intelligency and cleverness will be the only answer and weapons in playing the crowd.

Maybe we need a stricter requirement for voting
