18 Ambulances, 6 Helicopters Respond to 'Megabus' Crash on 1-55: 1 Killed (Video of Aftermath Below)

On August 2, 2012, a double-decker Megabus crashed into a concrete overpass pillar on I-55 in Montgomery County, Illinois. Megabus operates a service between St. Louis and Chicago, using double-decker buses.

Megabus Crashes Into Bridge

18 ambulances and six helicopters responded to the scene of the bus crash, and Litchfield School District sent school buses to transport the uninjured passengers. One female passenger was killed in the Megabus crash, and at least 24 injured.

The bus crashed after leaving a northbound lane at Mile Marker 57, just north of Litchfield. I-55 is shut down in both directions. Southbound traffic is diverted at Exit 60 (Carlinville). Northbound traffic is diverted at Exit 52 (Litchfield).
