Lawyers for the head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn have said that he will contest vigorously allegations that he tried to rape a maid at a hotel in New York on Saturday. Mr. Strauss-Kahn who has been considered a front runner for the French presidential election next year is due in court later today. His appearance was delayed while the police get a warrant for forensic test to check for scratches or DNA.
Mr. Strauss-Kahn's detention in New York comes at a crucial point in efforts to tackle the debt crisis in the Eurozone, he has been due to attend a meeting of European finance ministers in Brussels today to discuss the terms of a bailout for Portugal and measures to stabilize the Greek economy, another senior official will now represent the IMF.
