NP Rank:
Imprisoned Canadian in Mexican Jail Her Own Worst Enemy
Opinion
Barry Artiste, Now Public Contributor
Brenda Martin imprisoned and convicted of Money Laundering, rots in a Mexican Jail and has been for the last two years. Brendan has been regularly seen wailing incessantly and threatening suicide as she whines to anyone who will listen, especially to Canadian Media on her outspoken charges about her false imprisonment and Mexico's corrupt Justice system.
Granted she is most likely correct on all counts.
Brendan Martin and her supporters further state that Canada has let her down, a 2-year travesty from a Canadian Governments inaction to get her immediately released from prison.
Perhaps, but diplomatic efforts behind the scenes between Canada and Mexico have been going on for some time, and dealing with corrupt Mexico authourities at times is like dealing with Helen Keller. Regardless, Diplomatic channels have to remain open and friendly, regardless how frustrating it is dealing with with incompetent Mexican Justice system.
Brenda Martin's current diatribe against both Canada and Mexico where it has been said, while the possiblity that Brenda may be released from prison and extraditied to Canada, has her on "Raging Tangent", this time with Brenda and her Supports loudly protesting that it is a further travesty that she may have to spend some time in a Canadian Jail upon her release from a Mexican Prison.
One can be certain if Brenda is released and sent back to Canada, she will not spend a day in jail, as it is certain this is just a ploy through diplomatic channels to let Mexico save face, and Canadian officials to get her home.
Brenda and her supporters should know one thing about Diplomacy, you do not publicly "Scream Bloody Murder" to a media who love to "Bait" you into "Tirades" against those who are trying their best to help you. Especially one can imagine her tirades in a Mexican court, certainly did not endear her to the Mexican people or elicit sympathy from anyone. Brenda has become her own worst enemy!
Brenda, most likely would be home by now, if she had earlier on practiced the "Shut the Fu*k Up Method" of Diplomacy, at least until she was safely back on Canadian Soil. To do otherwise, is her own fault and blame for her late release can only be squarely centered on her and her followers!
Jason Kenny, Canadian Minister of Secretary of State is in Mexico today to effect her immediate release.
On April 25, 2008, Brenda may be released this week from a Mexican Jail and is soon on her way back to Canada.
It will be interesting to see her on the Talk Show circuit and in the Media interviews to see if she will continue her "Vile Hysterical Rants" against a Government who did their very best under the very worst of circumstances.
Currently there are other Canadians in Mexican Jails, who need help as well and diplomatic efforts behind the scenes are currently in progress.
Anything Brenda says negatively in the media against a corrupt Mexican Justice System will certainly do more harm then good for diplomats trying to secure the release of other Canadians under false imprisonment in Mexico.
Again, Brenda needs to practise Decorum, and learn the Gentle Art of "Shut the Fu*k Up" Diplomacy.
But if her past and present conduct says anything about her, I am sure any advice will fall on deaf ears. Brenda without a doubt will Revel in her "New Role" to a eager media as a "Martyr and Poster Child" of the wrongly incarcerated.
Martin's release from Mexican prison snarled in red tapeCharles Rusnell , Canwest News ServicePublished: Thursday, April 24, 2008
GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Mexican justice officials appear to have cleared the way for convicted Canadian Brenda Martin to get out of their country by the end of today.
But the Mexican government is insisting Canada must abide by an international prisoner transfer treaty that will delay her return by up to two weeks, Martin's friend and designated advocate, Deb Tieleman, said Thursday in Guadalajara.
Abiding by the treaty may also force Canada to imprison Martin in her home country, a possibility that frustrates and confuses Martin.

My Point being Moon, that you failed to see is that she is not helping her case by constantly accusing her captors of bribery, corruption and incompetence, including tirades against a government who is trying to get her released. One wonders what she is thinking. Granted Mexico is corrupt, but telling them to their face and to the world is not going to get her out faster, remember a society dominated by Latinos maschismo is at stake and a woman emasculating them is a Big Mistake, especially when they have your life in their hands.
Thanks for visiting and your comments
As for me spending anytime in a Mexican jail, would not happen, for you see, I avoid countries historically with poor human rights records, and a justice system comprised of not trained lawyers and judges, but by friends appointed to posts by even a more corrupt government. There has been repeated stories for decades on Mexico and its treatment of citizens and tourists, falling off third floor balconies, tourists disappearing without a trace. I surmise Brenda was either naive, though at 50 years old, you'd think she had once read a newpaper or heard of mexican atrocities in her life, so I would think her stupidity to ever go and work there in the first place would apply.

It's very easy to sit behind the safety of your computer and judge things from afar, without having a clue about what you are saying. Barry -- you make yourself out to be an expert on which countries have a legal system that works and which countries don't - but in the end you will find corruption and nepotism everywhere. The only difference is how deep you'd have to dig to see it. What a completely ridiculously judgmental and ridiculous website. As if anybody who would impact that poor person's release would ever read this, anyway.
