Indian National Congress has swept the 2009 Elections leading in 205 seats and it is the second in as many as 141 seats. If Congress is able to crack 50% of these seats it will be able to cross the magical figure 272 mark by itself.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is also emerging as a strong national player leading 20 seats,  second in as many as 50 seats across Uttar Pradesh. On an average the margin for defeat for BSP was about 54,000 votes.

In contrast, Samajwadi Part managed to come second only in 14 seats, BJP in 12 and INC in 6. The media is quick to write off Mayawati and her Bhujan Samaj Party and call this a coming of age for Congress, but BSP is still a force to reckon with and it came second in as many as 50 seats in UP.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has been elected. AIDMK is already contesting the election as the victory margin is very small. DMK contested 21 teams and ended up winning or leading in 18 seats so far.

Navin Patnayak has clearly stated that he will support neither BJP or Congress to form national government. It is being said in various media circles that the politics of extremism has been rejected, but the initial trends that are coming out clearly contradicts this.

Arun Jaitley formally concedes defeat.  BJP has lost the elections and Congress-led UPA has emerged as the largest alliance and should form the government.

Election 2009 Highlights:
  • Trinamool Congress and Congress leading the left in West Bengal after decades.
  • Congress and BJP are leading ahead of SP and BSP after a long time - looks like Rahul Gandhi's magic in UP has worked wonders.
  • UDF is leading in Kerala Congress is leading in Andhra Pradesh by a huge margin.
  • UPA sweeping Delhi with lead in 7 seats and BJP leading from South Delhi.

That is why certain sections of society are called "vote banks".

The shepherd shouts  "Haai, go there..! and the entire herd goes..!. Shepherd says "Drop..!" and lo, the herd drops dead..!!!

One of the biggest drawbacks of Democracy.
