India:Election Time Gimmicks
This is election time and as expected the largest chunk of voters, poor and farmers, are being wooed by various parties by various means. The union budget is being projected and aggressively marketed as the best ever pro-poor budget. But in spite of having the provision of a massive debt waiver schemes for farmers, there is nothing in it that will help millions of hapless poor .It seems that these plans have been mooted and will be formulated as per the cold statistical data and the prevailing social factors which reflects disturbing ground realities will be completely ignored once again. There is also accusations flying around that the mammoth loan waiver would only help the farmers of theMarathwada regions of Maharastra state of India and the farmers of Vidharv will be left out as most of them do not qualify for the complete waiver. There will be relief, however,to some notwithstanding the area they reside in.
There are millions of daily wage earners who have no access to Banks and other financial institutions.Even those who have migrated to cities are yet to hear anything about "The Bank".Even the relatively well off people in the rural area have no easy access to the Bank.
The finance minister of India will be stumped to realise that Banks in the hinterland function just like any other government department. There is fixed rate for every loan application. The borrowers are discouraged until they seek help from some tout stationed there. This process has been fine tuned such efficiently that people have accepted this as a normal banking practices. It
is commonly known that some of our parliamentarians receive their 30 %cut and award their MPLAD funds to one of their trusted ally who in turn award the projects to various contractors who in turn subcontract the work to someone who hails from that village. They are all party workers and stick to the party for this very purpose.
The actual amount spend in this way on any work merely translate into nothing and that's why no visible improvement can be seen in Indian Countryside. The situation is same more or less as it was in the last decade.WhenMP's,MLA's and government officials are brazenly behaving this way then there is no question of any ordinary mortals to raise his voice against these corrupt practices. He is forced to accept whatever is doled out to him unless he want to miss the subsidy and other schemes offered towards him.
This state of affairs is prevailing primarily because no one is answerable to anyone .The civil servants are just not proactive and never venture out from their hallowed precincts to weed out these corrupt practices. Some newly recruits try to be idealistic until humiliated by some small time politician. So they too retreat into safer zone allowing our disgusted leaders to rule the roost.
Those were the leaders who fought for the independence of this country and these are the leaders who are hell bent on destroying this country. The situation can be still brought into some kind of semblance but our leaders cutting across all parties have prioritised the family interest over national interest and they speak the same language only tone and textures are different.
A News Portal like "UPI Asia Online" can transform many things. Now with the spread of Internet into every district ,there could be hundreds of citizen Journalist who would be reporting real happening from the ground Zero.Once this happen it will become the mirror for our politicians and officials wherein they can see their true picture. They will themselves be horrified .sure !
