Zardari on India

Extending a new hope of friendliness between two traditional rivals for the first time new Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari have said that India has never been threat for their country and he is ready to do business with them. Blowing a big setback to the separatist leaders in Indian Kashmir he said that militants in Kashmir are not martyrs but terrorists. Pakistan's powerful military has long-defined India as an existential threat, and in the past it has given covert backing to the militants in Kashmir.

Zardari  is impressed with India's economic success and expressed his appreciation to Indian prime minister during their meetings at the New York on the sideline of UN general meetings recently. Mr Zardari's comments thus mark a radical break with the past.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari says India has never been a threat to Pakistan, and that militants in Indian-administered Kashmir are terrorists.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he also seemed to acknowledge that his government has given consent to US air strikes in Pakistan.

The unorthodox views run counter to those held by Pakistan's military, which views India as a threat.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars but have made recent peace moves.

I hope India and Pakistan will develop a good relationship under this new government. Pakistan can learn much from India in terms of developing a strong economy. Let the Kashmiris form their own government. Pakistan then should show the world that a Muslim country can be economically strong and progressive. Pakistan and India can become a strong military bloc against external threats to the region and terrorism. There is much to gain. It is time for Pakistan to show the world that its citizens can contribute to technological and cultural progress. Also, religious understanding. Good luck to both countries.
