Columbia: Indian American Nikky Randhawa Haley (38) was sworn in as the first woman Governor of South Carolina on Thursday. She took the oath in Columbia. Haley is the first non-white and the first woman to serve as the Governor of South Carolina and the second Indian American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 38, she also became the youngest current governor in the country. She is mentioned as “long shot” candidate in the 2012 US presidential election, says Wikipedia.
Nikky Haley’s husband Michael, children Rina (12) and Nalin (8) and Indian Ambassador Mira Shankar attended the swearing-in ceremony.
