Indonesia plans to deploy police officers on roller skates to direct traffic in its notoriously jammed street such as Sudirman Street, Gatot Subroto Street, Rasuna Said Street and M.H. Thamrin Street.

Newspaper  Tempo daily reported Friday that a team which consist 10 police officers would be sent to the scene of traffic jams in the capital Jakarta to direct traffic.

Police officer Dua Sutirto was quoted as saying 20 officers were chosen because "they were young and fast." He said the force had hired a top roller skater to train the officers. He said again that roller-skating police was not the only solution to overcome the traffic jams, it  was only an additional aid to improve highway patrol police' services besides to  cut its operational costs.

He said that will begin work on July 1 in some protocol streets.

According to one member of  the team, rolling skate in the middle of crowded streets needs certain skills. They have to be more wary in enforcing their new duties since this can be imperil their own safety on the streets. However, we were glad that society's optimist over this new team.

Good luck officers!!
