Indonesia diplores extension of Aung San Suu Kyi`s house arrest

Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda deplores the Myanmar`s military junta`s decision to extend the house arrest of their country`s pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, a foreign ministry spokesman said.

Even though differences of view are okay, the (junta`s) decision runs counter to the principle of humanitarianism which many parties are practicing , especially those now helping Myanmar recover from its recent natural disaster," Foreign Ministry spokesman Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo quoted Wirayuda as saying.

The foreign minister expressed his regret to newsmen at the end of a three-day visit in the Philippines during which he received an "Order of Sikatuna" medal of honor from Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

In the meantime, Myanmar`s military junta on Tuesday announced that Aung San Suu Kyi`s confinement to her house near a lake in Yangon would be over next year.
