Indonesia presents certificates of appreciation to Chinese govt

The head of the Aceh-Nias Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency (BRR Aceh-Nias), Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, handed the certificates to Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Lan Lijun at a ceremony at the Chinese Embassy here Thursday.

"The support from China has demonstrated the spirit of global partnership and the genuine generosity of the Chinese government and people to the Indonesian government and people," Kuntoro said on the occasion.

More than 100,000 new homes were provided for those who survived the earthquake-trigered tsunami which devastated Aceh and Nias, North Sumatra, three years ago.

Ambassador Lan Lijun said when the disaster struck, the Chinese government and people carried out the largest overseas disaster relief action ever.

Chinese disaster relief projects such as the provision of prefabricated houses in Aceh, installation of earthquake monitoring and tsunami warning systems, reconstruction of the Nias Gunung Sitoli hospital, the building of China-Indonesia friendship villages and donation of goods and materials through UN bodies had all been completed.
