If there was any indication of where the United States is headed 2012 was by far the most auspicious omen for our future. From Hurricane Sandy, to mass shootings, to tornadoes and wild fires that tormented half the nation have literally transformed the landscape of America. But, there remains a more sinister realm of reality facing the American public today. A realm of reality that affects every United States citizen.
Never before has so many been forced to uproot from American soil finding that the American dream in America is dead. Where self serving bureaucrats are so openly contentious of the public they are supposed to serve have squashed the hopes and dreams of so many millions of Americans. This to the point that for millions their only hope for a future, any future at all, is far away from a country that has abandoned them.
It is as though a carefully orchestrated set of policies, laws, and even Supreme court decisions over the last half century have transformed American society into an ambiguous chameleon that constantly changes public opinion to meet the needs of public officials, corporate CEO's and Wall Street financiers. The great melting pot where people from around the world arrived in boatloads to pursue a better future, where that shinning beacon of hope was America. Now that beacon, that shinning light of hope has been extinguished by the flames of greed, apathy, and moral disintegration.
A mass exodus has ensued. Who can blame them? Their hopes, aspirations, and dreams have withered on the vine of lost opportunities. Where random acts of terror and violence are occurring more frequently. Where that upward mobility ladder is covered in grease applied by political expediency it's impossible to climb. Where liberties of man lay hidden by the shroud of injustice. Where moral virtue has been displaced. Yes! Fellow Americans the times they are a changing.
What lays ahead in 2013? That remains to be seen. Is there still hope things will turn around? The terror and mayhem of the past we hope will subside. The will of public officials to do the right thing and preserve the future for us all is yet another big question. The realization is that when so many have actually found better opportunities elsewhere more questions still arise. Especially, about the empathy toward the majority of Americas by the powers that be.
If 2013 is a repeat of 2012 and all indications point to more of the same, the gravity of the United States future is precariously in doubt. A new day, a new year is about to commence. I for one have been troubled by the past. The years of corruption have already taken their toll. Already in place are those who lie in wait to reap rewards for keeping the status quo. It is possible to alter the course we are headed. But, so far there have been no course deviations toward that brighter future. Sure, their have been much rhetoric form the powers that be that change is heading our way. But, the actions taken so far have proved most futile and the exodus only continues. Finding that beacon of hope where America stood tall now it is in other countries where that shinning light guides their way.
A very sad commentary for today. When so many find refuge in foreign lands, when so many are shunned by their own country, when so many are abandoned by set policies, regulations, and laws that only favor a few are realizing that their hopes and dreams will never be fulfilled. It is as though those who first came ashore at Ellis Island seeking a better future today thousands have left and are continuing to leave a country who really has lost it's way. The evolution of the United States has almost come full circle. The image of he United States in the eyes of the rest of the world has now become tarnished. It is but a shadow of the power and mystic that prevailed for so long. Is it too late to turn back the clock? There again, I am so reminded of a most relevant quote " I am the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul" pretty much sums up America's destiny. The future of American society lies within all of us.
