International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women
Ban Ki-moon, secretary general of the UN has called on prominent men around the world to speak out against violence against women on the tenth anniversary of passing the resolution to mark November 25 as the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women .
On the 10th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Ban Ki -moon has unveiled a newly created 'Network of Men'.
He wants prominent male leaders to act as role models to get more men to condemn violence against women, which takes place in many forms and in many countries around the world.
In Jordan, the UN says 43 per cent of women are victims of abuse.
The causes of violence against women are many. War, famine and economic downturns all contribute to the marginalization of women and expose them to abuse and violence.
Trafficking of women is a world wide problem. It is easy to find thinly disguised ads for prostitution.

I am coming from a country which harmful cultural practices are a daily life style and no one has the right to stand up. I conciedr myself lucky being in the land of free. I wish every one could stand up to help the young girls and boys that are already in America but they still see the harmful cultural practices regularly takeing places in their homes and no one can help. what is the point to come all the way across the Ocean to America and still not be free. It is an important day in deed and a problem that needs to be solved.
However, I do not think that the approach is right or even has a chance to solve any thing.
Violence is not against woman specifically as such but against those that are the least able to defend them self and a yes that makes woman to an extend a large part of the victims.
Where is this violence coming from and why? Part of the problem does lay with in our societies and our systems. Human do function best in a certain setting and need certain basis to be stable, such as jobs, small communities and a sense of belonging... these are just a few fundamental that go hand in hand with food, shelter and education as well as many other factors.
We can not stop violence if we do not accept to change our society over all.
We have today more slaves then we did two centuries ago and we have more victims of wars today then we did in WWII. There are a great number of existential fears on humanity that are no longer containable, unless we change drastically from a consumer society to a more pragmatic and self sustained society.

We need more women in government in the U.S. and the world before the problem of violence against women and children will cease to exist! Only when women have reached at least 50% equality with men in running the governments of the world will we have equality!
