As social networking sites grow in popularity and attract a young user group parents are obviously concerned for their children's online and offline safety. Abduction, Rape and even Murder are on our minds, a research group lead by Janis Wolak at the Crimes Against Children Research Center, University of New Hampshire concluded after a phone interviewing over 3,000 10-17 year olds in 2000 and 2005, as well as 600 law enforcement officials, that the idea of a shady man in his 50’s or 60’s coercing an innocent teen may not be the case.

For example in spite of public concern using social networking sites such a facebook, myspace, or nexopia doe’s not appear to increase the risks of being victimized by online predators.
