Sense and sensibility

My judgment is that Iowans are practical, most of them, Republicans and Democrats. This is Middle America at its average best, don’t you agree?

Iowa Republicans want a representative with a prayer of a chance to win in the general election. They are a diverse group, but when it comes to government, they want effectiveness like everyone else. They understand collaboration and consensus derived from their strong family culture and experience.

So they look at the candidates served up by the Republican Party. Rick Santorum is likeable and possesses a lot of values that are close to many religious conservative Iowans. Ron Paul is an elder statesman and many Iowans like that. They don’t trust Newt or Rick. They liked Michele but she is a little flighty and gets things mixed up like John Wayne Gacy (killer) and John Wayne the movie actor. John Huntsman seems sweet but they never see him. So, it comes down to Mitt Romney whose resume looks good and who acts presidential. Iowans are warming up to Mitt and sometimes he sports a plaid shirt too.

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Did Newt Gingrich peak too early?

new survey of people likely to attend Iowa's Republican caucuses indicates that the former House speaker's support in the Hawkeye State is plunging. And according to a CNN/Time/ORC International Poll, one-time long shot candidate Rick Santorum has more than tripled his support since the beginning of the month.”
