IPL 6 Match 29: Kings XI Punjab vs Pune Warriors Live Scorecard
Adam Gilchrist, the Kings XI Punjab captain, won the toss and put Pune Warriors India in to bat, on a wicket Gilchrist described as “funny”, in their Pepsi Indian Premier League 2013 clash at PCA Stadium in Mohali on Sunday (April 21).
This is the second clash between the two sides in the tournament. In Punjab’s tournament opener, they bowled out Pune for 99 before claiming a comfortable eight-wicket win.
However, Gilchrist warned against reading too much into that. “It was a good opening game,” he said. “But we can’t reflect too long on that. The conditions are different and both teams have played more cricket since then. They’ve notched up a couple of wins as well. So we’re focussed on today.”
Both teams come into the game on the back of losses to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pune imploded last Wednesday and somehow contrived to fall short by 11 runs in their chase of 120. Two days later, Punjab failed to defend 123, losing by five wickets.
With the losses in mind, both teams implemented changes. Gilchrist dropped Dimitri Mascarenhas and Paul Valthaty from the side that lost against Hyderabad, and brought in David Miller and Parvinder Awana in their place.
Aaron Finch, who has played key roles in both of Pune’s successes so far in the tournament, was their captain for the day, and he named a few changes, with Angelo Mathews, the regular captain, and Mitchell Marsh making way for Luke Wright and Ajantha Mendis. Also, Yuvraj Singh and Mithun Manhas came in to the side in place of Manish Pandey and T Suman.
Despite losing the toss, Finch revealed he would have batted first anyway, saying the “unusual” pitch wouldn’t change much in twenty overs. Gilchrist was also unsure of the pitch, and said, “It’s a funny looking wicket, patchy in some areas but grassy in the middle. It was a little bit slow last time, but it’s looking different today.”
