Iran Bans Mannequins With Curves, Western Clothes
Police in Iran are ordering store owners to cover up mannequins that expose curves or hair. All mannequins must wear head scarves - hijabs- as well as loose-fitting clothing to counter Western influences.
The ban is one of President Ahmadinejad's attempts to enforce religious dress codes in Iran. Since his inauguration in 2005, numerous crackdowns have been made on shop owners to make sure they are complying. It has been common for police to check on shop keepers in the hot summer months, but winter examinations are becoming more common. Police also warn men with "Western" hairstyles, and women who show off curves with tight pants.
Violators are often given a warning after their first offence, and can be taken to court or ordered to take "guidance classes" if they don't cover the mannequins.
'Both showing necktie and bowtie behind the windows ... and (the) selling (of) women's underwear by men are prohibited,' said the police statement.

But doesn't President Ahmadinejad have a 'western haircut'. What a bunch of silly people.

Yeah I think it was specifically a question of "spiky" western hairstyles...

AN's revenge on the women who dared to oppose him in recent protest demonstrations. 'Violate my rules and you will get more of my tender attention.'

what may be silly to you is not silly to some one from another culture, what is normal to you may not be normal to another person. stop being so judgment on such petty things.. but thats what women do right.. and how exactly is this revenge? women by islamic law are not allowed to reveal their figures.

What makes this story stand out is the obvious fact that mannequins are plastic, and not human. Would you shield a child's eyes from an unclad mannequin?

Guess Maria has not been following the events in Iran.

Sara: I look at it this way: If women are not allowed to wear what they want to wear because of government mandate--or at least have the freedom to make their own decisions about their dress and test the waters, as it were, how will they ever have any freedom at all? It's quite a statement about the totalitarian and conformist nature of a particular government when that government won't even allow women to expose their faces. The mask needs to come off--and I'm definitely making a judgment here . . . .

Judgements are indeed most often needed to change the judgements that once led to the creation of utterly discriminating behaviour.

Ha, sure. You could say that. Dangerous radiation versus targeted radiation aimed to help.

Iran is not the only one that is moving away from Western influence and reclaiming its own culture on wish to evolve and build, nor is Islam the catalyst here. Same trends can be observed through out Asia, and this in Hindu Areas as well as Buddhist areas.
Even in Russia similar trends can be observed and are starting to make a impact and are well received with in the population.
The West and especially the US should reflect on this rather then condone it.

I thought that was what a burqua was for...To hide the womans curves so the men wouldn't be driven wild with lust and rape them. Then blame the woman for the inability to control themselves and stone her to death or some other barbarism. I'm sure wearing big black burqua's in the desert makes for a very interesting case study of yeast infections and offensive smells. What a pathetic "life". You have no rights or personal freedom. And of course you can't go anywhere outside the home without an escort. Sounds really great to me, And I thought bapstists were tough. (Hah) Are they aware that Jews, Christians and Muslims are all the same ??? Its all the same GOD !!!

You can read this article and re-read it and it doesn't make any sense...Is this to keep the mannequins from getting raped as well the women ??? What a bunch of tripe. If they spent half that time and energy commited to improving world relations and feeding the poor, Educating the population ( particularly women ), Defeating the Taliban and other Terror groups and living like a bunch of primitive animals... Think of the Good they do for themselves and the world.
