Iran Election News: Christiane Amanpour Asks of Mousavi's Safety
CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour asked a pointed question to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding the safety of rival Mir Hossein Moussavi.
There have been varying reports saying that Moussavi is currently under house arrest.
Christian Amanpour of CNN says, “You said you are President of all Iranians…. Mousavi, can you guarantee his safety and why have opposition officials been arrested?”
Ahmadinejad’s reply “The situation is very good in Iran. It is the most stable country in the world. There is rule of law in this country … All the people are equal … So some people are becoming excited and having confrontations with the police force. This is like someone coming out of a stadium and getting into confrontations with the police… they will be fined.”
She and he get into an actual verbal scuffle.
The Iranian president then compared the protesters to rowdy soccer fans.
"In a soccer match, people may become excited and there may be confrontation between the people and the police force. People who violate traffic regulations will be fined by the police no matter who he is. These are not problems," Ahmadinejad said.
Clearly, Ahmadinejad is losing his patience with the Western media. BreakingNews has gotten reports that foreign journalists may be forced to leave Iran.
NOS News: Dutch journalist J. Eikelboom, who was briefly detained, has been told that all foreign journalists will be ordered to leave Iran.
