Iran Protests Dec. 27, 2009: Photos, Video, #iranelection Tweets
Protests have erupted in Iran claiming the lives of eight people including the nephew of Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi is reportedly among eight people killed in continuing clashes between police and protesters. Reports from opposition websites and the iranelection feed on Twitter states that Ali Mousavi was shot and killed by police.
The Iran protests started in the morning and went all night as thousands of demonstrators clashed with police during an important Shiite Muslim holiday. The LA Times is reporting that there are eyewitnesses claim that police opened fire on crowds during the Ashura religious commemoration.
Iran's reformist movement has continued to gain momentum since Iran's controversial June election. Protesters have used social networking sites like Twitter to get the word out on what is taking place in Iran via the iranelection and #iranelection hashtags.
