Iran blast kills Revolutionary Guard officers

In an unprecedented incident, 35 people including elite Islamic Revolutionary guard generals killed in a suicide bast in the Iranian province of Sistan va Baluchestan.

Iran squarely blamed US and Britain for this incident.

The killed included Islamic Revolutionary Guard's Deputy commander, General Noor Ali Shooshtari and a province commander General Rabag Ali Mohammadzazeh and other commanders.

The Guard officials were going to attend a meeting with the tribal leaders of Iran's restive Pishin district near Pakistan border. The Sistan-Baluchestan province is facing a problem of increasing Sunni insurgency.

Some Sunni and Shia tribal leaders too are afraid to be killed.

Suspecion also pointed at Jundallah, a Sunni militant group that was believed to be behind some previous bombings in Iran. Jundallah lead by one Abdolmalek Rigy , has a history of a series of bombings, kidnaps and murders carried out against Iranian soldiers and others. Iran says that this terrorist group receives aid from US to destabilize the country.

Iran is a country that has a majority of the population are Shia Muslims.

The picture is not clear as there are conflicting reports are coming in about this violent incident .

A suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday at a meeting in southeastern Iran of the elite Revolutionary Guards, killing seven commanders and 23 other people in an attack Tehran blamed on Washington.

Several tribal leaders at the meeting in Sistan-Baluchestan province — a hotbed of Sunni insurgency — also died in the blast which officials said additionally injured 28 people.

The attacker set off his explosives belt as the meeting got underway around 8.00 amin front of a gymnasium in the city of Pisheen, near the border with Pakistan, the state broadcaster said.

Iran’s parliament speaker said the United States was behind the attack while the Guards accused Western powers for the assault.
