Cairo, Egypt - A high-level Iranian cleric, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, called for the shooting of the Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and denounced President-elect Barack Obama's search for a family pet on Friday.

"Every time the picture of this woman is shown, I really wish that somebody would expend a bullet on her," he said according to a recording of the sermon obtained by the Associated Press.

Jennati is the head of the powerful hardline Iranian Council of Guardians which ensures the government remains true to the principles of the Islamic revolution.  He was handpicked by Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and is seen as one of the biggest opponents of democratic reforms in Iran.

He also criticized Obama during his sermon.

"The world is on a slope of collapse. One is shocked when a president (Obama) sits, smiles and says 'my concern is to find a dog for my daughter.' Shame on you and those who voted for you," he said.

This is the sort of thing that can endanger a cease-fire... Oh, and if Jannati has time to pick on the soon-to-be First Dogs, then I have chores that need doing.

The world would be a more peaceful place if we just ignored what all religious leaders say, regardless of the specific brand of their religious beliefs.

lol!

Whatever one's point of view in this conflict, you gotta admit that this is funny!!

Reminds me of the Iranian General who announced (in substance, I've lost the link) that "According to International Rules of War, we have prepared 250 000 graves for the bodies of American soldiers if ever they invade Iran".

Thanks for posting....

Well, Last year we had renowned US Cleric or clergy calling for the assassination of H. Chaves. President of Venezuela. I think when it comes to extremes and idiotic arguments as well as acts the US and Iran can very well out do each other and I am not sure wish would be the worth or the better at it.

Of course Paschen. I didn't at all mean to imply that Iranians were the only people who made me laugh! It's just that the post happened to be about what an Iranian guy said.

I mean "We shall defeat terrorism" lol! Or "We shall slaughter the Israelis like dogs if they invade" Yo!

I just find it funny if it's funny. Bush, Hamas, USA, Iran, England, Syria. No distinction.

As long as there is a breath there is hope.

And we've had white extremist groups in the US itself calling people to attack Obama.

extremists - wish they would stay there - out on the extremities....

Amen to that, Lotus Flower. Simply and well put. Whoever they may be, the world does not need them.

+1, especially the US as led by the Bush gang. Perhaps that'll change a bit?

As sockandawe.com becomes somewhat redundant at around 80,000,000 hits, maybe we can look forward to schlockandawe with Tipsy Wotsit as the target.

Plus of course the ongoing Anti-Semites Against Anti-Semites Campaign.

At times I am ready to give up on the possibility of people living together in peace.

It is unfortunate that this type of extremist view that gives moderate Iranians/Islamists a bad name.

It's funny, because whenever I see Tzipi's photo I get a bonner: Tzipi is one hot MILF!
