Iran's Parliament is set to move for the impeachment of the country's Interior Minister Ali Kordan over his alleged Oxford degree. The newly-appointed minister, Kordan, acknowledged in a September 27 letter that he was in possession of a forged Oxford University degree. "Kordan will face an impeachment vote on November 4," a member of the Majlis presiding board, Hamid Reza Haji-Babaei told reporters on Sunday. Ever since his announcement, Kordan has faced calls for resignation or impeachment from Iranian Parliamentarians. A member of the central committee of the Principalist bloc, Ali Motahari, said earlier that more than 30 lawmakers from the bloc, which holds the majority of seats in Parliament, have called for Kordan's impeachment. Under the Iranian law, an impeachment motion needs a minimum of 10 signatures to be put on the Majlis agenda. Haji-Babaei said the impeachment session would last 5 hours, during which the Iranian minister would have a 3-hour opportunity to argue his case. The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would also attend the session to support his minister. Kordan, who replaced the former Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi in August, has pressed charges against a person claiming to be a representative of Oxford University in Tehran as soon as the authenticity of his degree was questioned.
