Iraq Might Build "Baghdad Eye" As Tourist Attraction by Gh0s7

An article from Sky.com says that Iraq is possibly going to build a giant ferris wheel, known as The Baghdad Eye, to promote tourism in Baghdad. The Baghdad Eye will soar more than 650 feet over Baghdad and the Tigris River and will have air-conditioned compartments that can carry 30 people each.

"This wheel will be taller than the iconic 443-foot London Eye,"

Baghdad municipality spokesman Adel al Ardawi would not reveal the estimated cost or timeline for the wheel.

"We hope to attract a great number of customers who will be able to see the whole city and enjoy the restaurants and pools on ground below."

The article says that three locations have been proposed for the wheel but officials are waiting to see all the proposals before selecting one. London has a wheel that is 400 feet above the Thames River and it has drawn about 27 million visitors since is was completed in 2000.

"The security situation in Iraq remains highly dangerous with a continuing high threat of terrorism throughout the country," the FCO advises.

Iraq's tourism board is also seeking investors to develop a resort island on the Tigris River that would include a six-star hotel, spa, an 18-hole golf course and a country club.
