Self-awareness Campaign of 3 TV Networks’ Stars
Manila, Philippines - In the heat of the Manny Pacquiao–Ricky Hatton bout last May 3, while the whole world was watching, the self-awareness campaign, “Ako Mismo”, (I Myself) was launched in the Philippines’ free TV. The stars of known rival TV networks, ABS-CBN and GMA, lead the campaign, which is geared to encourage people to act and help themselves and the nation.
Although outputs are yet to be seen, this massive campaign is very timely and may boost this poor country’s low morale. Ako Mismo is an echo of US President Barack Obama’s campaign “Yes, we can!”, if not inspired by an earlier campaign, “Isang Araw Lang” (Just for a Day), of the television network UNTV.
“Isang Araw Lang” was conceptualized by veteran broadcaster Daniel Razon, host of public-service morning program Good Morning Kuya. Its purpose is to move people to do a good thing even for just one day in a year. As explained by Razon, there are 365 days in a year, 30 days in a month, 7 days in a week and they are never complete
without a day.
Last April 21, a day before Earth Day, about 2,000 youth volunteers from different colleges and universities responded to the campaign Razon had called for. These youth helped clean one of the 30 dirtiest rivers in the world in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, Metro Manila. The project was called “Isang araw para sa Kalikasan”.
Hernani De Guzman, Environmentalist Sanitation Services Officer, acknowledged the importance of such movements, and thanked Razon and the youth organization called Bread Society International. According to residents near the Sapang Alat River, it was the first time they have seen such force accomplish what was - until that day - impossible.
Prior to the Isang araw para sa Kalikasan project, a Free Medical Mission for Press Photographers was held on March 22 this year in Bulwagang Plaridel of National Press Club Building. The project, initiated by Razon, benefited many of the photographers in the country along with their families. Philippine Star's website reported that the free medical service for the media people is now given regularly every first Sunday of the month from 9am to 2pm in #907 Brgy. Philam, EDSA, Q.C., its service headquarter.
Before Razon, known locally as Mr. Public Service, introduced his campaign to the public, he has already led many projects for citizen welfare. These projects include the following: Clinic ni Kuya (Big Brother’s Clinic), which gives free medical and dental checkups, medicine, and minor surgeries daily; the Libreng Sakay (Free Bus Ride); the Munting Pangarap (Little Dream), a daily wish-granting service to help the less-privileged; the Law Center ni Kuya,a group of lawyers providing free legal consultations; Job Fair ni Kuya, a venue for job seekers; and the Free Transient Home, which is a joint project with Bro. Eli Soriano, the host of the program Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path). A free college in the metro is reportedly also in the works.
“Walk your talk,” is one of Razon’s principles. With all his visible endeavors, it is apparent that the man walked first before he talked. However, there are some who question why his campaign is called “Just for a day.” He simply answers, “I’ll leave that for you to answer… For us here, we do it every day.”
Following Isang Araw Lang is Ako Mismo. Prominent Filipino international artists including singer Charice Pempengco and The Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, local actors Angel Locsin and Edu Manzano, and many others, speak up in the commercial ads. The message motivates the Filipinos to take the steps necessary to help themselves and the country without relying on the government.
Despite its non-political nature, as stated by one of its head, Edu Manzano, Chairman of Optical Media Board, Ako Mismo attracts many skeptics, mostly leaders of various industries.
Issues raised recently are the purpose and security of the campaign’s online database, and the speculation of some that this is just a vehicle for the candidacy of certain politicians who are connected to the movement.
Although being questioned and scrutinized, Ako Mismo’s message to the concerned citizens - which is the importance of being self-aware to the possible act one can contribute to his society - could make a lot of difference. Ako Mismo branched out of Isang Araw Lang’s spirit. Both campaigns awaken the sense of responsibility of the Filipinos, not just toward nationalism but compassion to fellowmen.
As television networks spearhead these campaigns, the Filipinos have better chances of surviving without pleading anymore to some officials who are known for neglecting their responsibilities for citizen welfare.
If each Filipino would say “I will do it myself” even if it is “just for a day,” we will be seeing changes. Nothing is really too hard for one who is committed.

KING JAMES VERSIONJOHN 9:25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
...this is also my answer to Babel-Fish. You may say bad things to Bro. Eli Soriano and Mr. Public Service Kuya Daniel Razon but these people are motivating us and encouraging us to do good. MORE POWER KUYA DANIEL!

Same version
Isaiah 45:7 in the King James Version reads, “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things
I gather that Kuya Daniel is following the traits of learning by being good and evil at the same time, lol
Cut out the middle man and pray direct the middleman wants your money, lol
Again we have one of a group of this christian cult not even a member of Now public try to sell some indoctrinated propaganda.

And more money into your pocket Kuya Daniel.

The concept of this campaign is like the line in a classic Nora Aunor Movie: We, within ourselves where the miracle starts (tayo ang gumagawa ng himala). I salute the people behind these campaigns. Who knows, perhaps the revolutionary change that the world needs will be initiated by the Filipino race.

Religion is the problem main worlds problems, get rid of religion is the first step to peace, get rid of the crooked elite including the religious ones then that the real step that needs to be took.

Babel Fish,
From your name alone, I can say you are confused.
Your thoughts are confused and please don't try to make it appear that you are all-knowing. You are deviating your comment to make it appear to the public that the advocacy has any religious undertone in it. Because there is none. And granted there is any, so what? Are they cashing out from these poor people whom they are helping? I think not.
It does not take a genius to understand and grasp the whole message of the article, and that the religious affiliation of Mr. Public Service is not even mentioned here.
You are like the Pharisees in the Bible I was reminded. You know why? Because mind you, the resources for the conduct of charity and the goodwill shared by Mr. Razon to the people were not begged from just anybody. Not even you have donated anything, right? Have you seen the wide billboards along Edsa with Mr. Razon pictured endorsing a product? That's one of the proofs of his hard labor, to earn something and use for his project.
So please stop pushing your agenda here old man. You know you should be proud that there are still people who commit themselves to doing humanitarian services, even without the help of anybody, not even from our government.

Attack the message and not the messenger. Is this the Christian way?
at 00:52 on May 23rd, 2009
The community here are not ganging up on you, and please don't paint your imagined reality here that all contributors in this page are Christians.
People here are questioning your credibility for posting claims that seems to deviate from the context of this article, and the spirit of citizen journalism as a whole. So if you are being quizzed and argued, you should not be very sensitive. Just be civil enough to answer rightly and with basis.
at 00:15 on May 31st, 2009
Are you trying to give excuse for taking an argument from here on to one of my articles?
I am certainly not sensitive it seems the opposite way around and at a guess that's why your assuming i am sensitive to rude attacks that are related to a problem of a lack of intelligence by those that can not relate to the comment and have to insult in a very un-christian moral way.
Its actually an academic sin as well as being a Christian sin.
I also have a problem that the many anonymous names mean that some members of this newsgroup are trying to bump up the article to the front page.
One thing is for sure I will not personal attack any ones character it would be below my moral standards. But why do Christian's of this Filipino cult dip to all times low and seem to think its morally right to carry out personal character assassination. Is that what is thought to be the norm concerning Christian morality. I would love to know where jesus Christ taught that was the right thing to do? Perhaps Bro Eli is right and you guys are the only ones that can read the Bible and understand its meaning? Where did I go wrong in reading the teachings of Christ please put me right what verse says its right to carry out character assasination, lol
Your all (one of you most possibly) very amusing and thanks for trying to debate even if you dont no the rules of respect and respecting other people opinion. Perhaps you need to read the two main chapters of the bible and glean those parts of Jesus Christs teaching. Perhaps I am the only one that can read those good lessons and know the truth of what Jesus really was saying.

I don't like Razon or any of your leading political clans and very skeptical about Bro. Eli or Dane. I feel the only answer is opening the door to the middle class Filipino's to get into power and blocking the political clans from applying for office. Adopting a parliamentary system that will allow the middle class and the poor to be politicians. Making it affordable for any inteligent patrotic filipino to become servants to the people.
Your church is not the way forward in its soft sell to achieve power in a very corrupt senate system of government. When it comes to my personal feelings about Filipino's my beef is not anti Filipino it at the fact that the Filipino citizens do not deserve having greedy power crazed corrupt people ruling their nation.
Religious indoctrination is not the way forward in fact and certainly, cults that are lead by people that have a very iffy back ground (I can supply links if required to prove my point) should be out of the picture completely.
There is a saying among the Chinese Filipino community that I have heard often in my long stay here in the Philippines and its "If you want to be rich in the Philippines start a new religion".
That's my opinion please be decent respect it and do not stoop to character assination, lets open a very sensible debate and talk about this in depth without scripture references.
Yes I love to see people reacting and doing good in their community, I already do that myself but this should be an act of patriotism, no i am not a patriot but someone who cares about your country and citizens of the world.

"There is a saying among the Chinese Filipino community that I have heard often in my long stay here in the Philippines and its "If you want to be rich in the Philippines start a new religion"."
Well, am with you with this quote.
Many preachers nowadays are really making profits out of religion in the guise of sacredness and holiness. But I beg to differ when it comes to Bro. Soriano because he did not establish one. You must not be staying in the Philippines for long for not knowing that, aren't you? Besides, he's still poor until today. He's not enriching himself.
Hey, Babel, I think you should try asking the preacher live so anything you post here will be answered to you directly by the man. Actually he can easily be reached either via his blog or through the official website of his organization. That's what sets Bro. Soriano different from other pseudo-pastors because he's always made himself available for inquiry.
Lastly, I have a comment to your statement: "Making it affordable for any inteligent patrotic filipino to become servants to the people." Believe, there is no one I can think of right now who is befitting the role than Mr. Daniel Razon.
Reasons are aplenty. Imagine him not given the seats in Congress due to some obviously questionable petition filed against him. But you should be blind for not noticing since day one after the elections, he's been very perserving, fervently working for the service of people. He's got a lot of projects still being lined up aside from the ones you are already seeing on UNTV like the Munting Pangarap (Little Dreams) livelihood program, Transient Home project, free clinic, legal assistance and many more.
So I think it's high time that you take a moment to inspect personally what's the truth than merely facing your desktop and keeping yourself updated by the very questionable Wikipedia or any other hate sites against these people. Here is a primer for the many hateblogs that are mushrooming against these two men you are very hateful of.

Religion is not the cause of the problem. On the contrary, the true religion in the bible solves all problems in the human society. Remember what true religion is...
(James 1:27) "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
The reason why there are problems in society is because there are religions who does not practice these. There are really preachers who uses religion to be rich just like the church of Eraño Manalo. Brother Eli and brother Daniel are not like that. They use their time and their money to serve others and not to be served. There are lot of people who benefits from their works of charity everyday.

Babel Fish, resorting now to lies, and gossips eh? Let me guess, that bitterness of yours towards the honest leaders of Ang Dating Daan is due to your insecurity.
Give us facts and data before we believe in you. You are full of crappy opinions.
Can't you see, you are the only one here ranting against the good deeds that Mr. Razon and Mr. Soriano had been doing. BITTER FISH may I say?
Why not just do something good to your fellowmen too rather than defaming and accusing the Mr. Razon and Mr. Soriano - who are doing nothing against you but to extend help to the poor people?
Don't just talk and talk Babel Fish, Walk it!
at 23:18 on May 21st, 2009
"Si Babel, si Babel. Puro na lang si Babel. Si Babel na walang malay sa Katotohanan"
That's the only thing I can say to Babel Fish. I wonder how he reads news.
at 03:03 on May 22nd, 2009
Let Mr./Ms. Babel Fish talk whatever he/she wants - that's her unshakeable conviction founded on something obnoxious.
The campaigns of Mr. Razon are fascinating and truly inspiring. I believe he wants his fellowmen to join hands to change the image of Filos into compassionate and devoted countrymen for goodwill.
Here in Thailand they have that kinda same idea with Mr. Razon's. They show TV ads showing the character of Thais before and after and there really is a huge change. Before, Thais show unity in festivities, etc. but today they are separated into red, yellow shirts, while some are in pink.
In my own opinion, I think the I Myself campaign would incite profound differences, probably provoke more demonstrations and murders because every one would fight for what he/she believes in. I Myself campaign lacks the message of unity in it. If the 'paid' campaigners of I Myself did encourage Filos to unite therefore the question should be -united for what?
Mr. Razon deserves a recognition from UN or perhaps a Nobel prize for his contribution to the world.
at 03:24 on May 22nd, 2009
Well-said you have there Rath of Thailand that I Myself advocacy might incite differences because it does not call for unity among the Filipinos.
But perhaps, as the article wrote, it said that we still have to wait until the I Myself or Ako Mismo advocacy reaps its fruits. But what's giving me satisfaction right now is the fact that here in Metro Manila, we can see the Isang Araw Lang advocacy to be really effective.
There have been many projects initiated in the recent past, in response to the Isang Araw Lang campaign. One example is the successful sweep of one of the dirtiest rivers in the world by the joint cooperation of students and city governments here. Here is where the news is posted -
In Just One Day, The World’s 30th Dirtiest River Gets Cleaned

The only television station to render free and whole-hearted service to the people and to God.
Hope this will be an eye opener to other television stations to the true service to humanity.
Thanks be to God!

Please note that every time you attack the messenger if your Christian then its classified as a sin under your own christian faith. The whole idea of good debate is to debate the comment or article its not a case of attacking the messenger nor any form of character assassination.
From your comments that attack the messengers, people can see what type of person you really are that you are actually defiling your own character and credibility. That is the reality you must learn to respect others even if they point to flaws within your religious cult.
at 01:04 on May 23rd, 2009
I have known members from the ADD lead by Bro. Eliseo Soriano. These people are obviously not fickle-minded as you portrayed them here. Most of them are intelligent thinkers and not closefisted, the reasons they decided to pull out of their former religions after realizing they are being conned when exposed by Mr. Soriano.
However, it is but normal that those people who believe that their religious rights and freedom are being muzzled to speak their hearts out, and defend what they believe to be true. Because in this government, do you expect to gain just judgment? fairness? There is no hope expecting to that. I hope you will do your homework and visit other libraries here in the cyberspace than the questionable confines of Wikipedia. For a starter, please read this article.

To Babel Fish
Who is your messenger? Does your messenger even believes in the bible?
at 21:44 on May 22nd, 2009
Keep up the good work Mr. Razon! Many poor Filipinos benefited from your charity works. It is but natural to be despised by other people who are deeply insecure. Anyway, you don't need to prove anything from these kind people as they are blinded by their own belief.
at 22:13 on May 22nd, 2009
Basically there are two factors in accomplishing something, first is the conceptualization and secondly, the actualization. Either one of the two missing will result to nothing.
"Isang Araw Lang" is just one of the long list of public service projects of Daniel Razon, even before his UNTV days he has been very prolific in endeavors to help the poor and the needy.
There is something that separates Daniel Razon from others, which makes him succeed in every good idea that he actualize, his GOD fearing heart.
Have you asked yourself, Babel-Fish, if you have thought of something good for your fellowmen and community and actually done something about it?
If not, then shame on you!!!
There is a saying " You can't put a good man down"
I say "No one can't put a man of God down!" .....rocketman

Mr.Daniel Razon is a good man, marami syang tinutulungan na mga taong walang anuman sa buhay, mga mahihirap, etc.hindi nagsasawang tumulong sa mga taong mahihirap..Kuya wag kang maniniwala sa mga paninira nila..wala silang magawa sa buhay naiinggit lang yan, kasi hindi nila magawa ang ginagawa mo Kuya Daniel..Magpatuloy po kayo sa paggawa ng Mabuti kuya..God Bless You...

Kudos! to the initiative of Mr. Public Service Big brother Daniel Razon that echoed too much to the ears of dormant peoples around the globe. In parallelism, just as an atom - which is the basic foundation of life can explode a very powerful bomb, so is "Isang Araw Lang" [A Day Only] can be a strong ember of light to ignite a helping hand.

To babel
I have noticed that you didn't even bother to give comments on the idea that your pastor didn't have A "SINGLE" FREE CLINIC, LIBRENG SAKAY SA BUS AND MRT , FREE MEDICAL MISSION "E V E R Y D A Y". And here you are telling us and even presenting us ISSUES that are ALL MANIPULATED!
Didn't you notice, we have felt the SPIRIT in YOU, even though you have never mention your religious affilation, with the kind of issue you have raised, you have been EXPOSED!...
YOUR LEADER CAN'T SHOW UP IN PUBLIC AND BE ASKED BY PEOPLE!!!
COWARDS!
Note: If the author of this article have the power to erase this babel-fish in the comment list please do so because he is spreading lies.

I do not have a leader and I steer myself through life with out the need of imaginary staffs.
however I do know a con when I see one.
Doing Good deeds with out monatary earnings does not lead to evil. It is evil to con your fellow man to fleeze your own bed.
at 21:53 on May 24th, 2009
KUYA DANIEL also said that "Good deed will not result to evil".
So to us who believed with this, Let us do good everyday of our life and be the
light. Spread the word!!!
