Israel, Arab states at odds over first UN gay rights declaration
I am very proud that Israel is in support of this resolution.
Israel has joined a group of United Nations member states calling for the institution's first gay rights declaration, an initiative which has met with resistance by an Arab-backed opposition.
The declaration that was presented Thursday at the UN General Assembly calls for decriminalization of homosexuality.
A
Advertisement Syrian representative read out a statement drafted by the opposition, arguing that the declaration would result in more sex crimes against children.
France and the Netherlands initiated the declaration following the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 60th anniversary that was marked earlier this month.
"This is the first time in history that a group of member countries voices its objection to discrimination that is based on sexual identity and orientation," said Dutch foreign minister, Maxime Verhagen. "The issue is no longer taboo," he added.

It is nice that there is a Charter of Human Rights laid out for us all. Not only does it include that there be no discrimination of sexual orientation, but the right to one's own opinion.

The UN Declaration of Human Rights, written by Eleanor Roosevelt, was adopted by the UN members in 1948. So far no country on earth has had the money to implement all of it.

Fairbanks, please permit me to inform you that Eleanor Roosevelt was not in any sense the author of the Declaration of Human Rights.

So the Syrian rep is unaware that homosexuality and pedophilia are two different things? Syria should've sent someone else, I think.

Weird because until homosexuals started making death threats against psychologists and psychiatrists, homosexuality was listed in the same category as pedophilia in the U.S. It was removed only after the death threats and harassment by homosexual activists.
Perhaps other countries base their medical opinions on science rather that political correctness and fear of having their homes picketed as occurred in the U.S.?

Homosexuality was not removed from the list of mental disorders because of "death threats" from homosexual activists. But then you already knew this anyway.

I agree, Jordan! Two very different things: homosexuality, pedophilia.

Science seldom has an impact on those driven only by superstition.

Is that why many liberals have superstitious faith, based upon failed religions like communism and/or atheism? Seems like the faith that you can rob from hard working people and give it to lazy asses so they will vote democrat is a pretty superstitious belief system.
I mean yes it creates a nanny state and guarantees a socialist system, but also destroys the drive and desire in men to achieve great things. Right?

No, not right.
Do you even know what you're talking about? What does this have to do with gay rights?

The representative of Syria said that homosexuality cannot be allowed as this would lead to paedophilia. (Notice that he said "would," not "could," so he's postulating a definite cause-effect relationship).
Hmm... Interesting. The last time I checked it was common in Muslim countries for grown men to marry girls as young as 9 (e.g. Iran). So as far as I can tell, paedophilia already is not only common but normalised in the Muslim world.
As it turns out, you don't need homosexuality, or the acceptance thereof, for paedophilia to become rampant in society. Good old heterosexual patriarchy will do the trick just the same.
