As the celebration of the anniversary of the Annapolis Conference draws near, it is clearer that a Israel-Palestina deal would not be reached prior to the end of term of American President George W. Bush. Israeli Prime Minister designateTzipi Livni confirmed her government would not be signing any "interim peace deal with Palestinians under current circumstances." "On Monday, Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas ruled out the possibility of sealing a peace deal with Israel by the end of 2008. "
Israeli Prime Minister-designate Tzipi Livni says she will not sign any interim peace deal with Palestinians under current circumstances. "We have no intentions of putting together an interim agreement, only to work in accordance with Israeli interests which have, in the past, already been presented," local news service Ynet quoted Livni as saying on Monday. The remarks were made ahead of a Quartet meeting in Egypt on November 9 to mark the anniversary of the Annapolis conference where President George W. Bush expressed strong hope that a full peace deal will be finalized by the time he leaves office in January 2009. "We will use our power to help you as you come up with the necessary decisions to lay out a Palestinian state,” Bush promised. However, little progress is visible on the ground as Israel fails to honor its promises made in the conference and refuses to make any compromise on core issues including status of al-Quds (Jerusalem), the fate of Palestinian refugees and final borders. Tel Aviv has continued to expand Jewish settlements on Palestinian land and destroy Palestinian homes despite promises not to establish new settlements in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) or the West Bank based on the 2002 Road Map peace plan.
