Israeli PM: Militants fired from UN compound53 minutes ago
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's prime minister says the Israeli military fired artillery shells at a U.N. compound in Gaza after militants opened fire from the location.
Ehud Olmert says Israeli forces "were attacked from there and the response was harsh."
U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon expressed "outrage" over the Israeli shelling of the compound Thursday.
At a meeting between the two, Olmert called the shelling a "sad incident" but said militants were responsible. The U.N. denies the Israeli allegation.
Like many incidents in this war we may never know the truth about this. Neither account can be proved or disproved. It will depend on who you believe. Neither Olmert nor Ban were there. Each is relying on the word of others.

true, but since it's Israel that is keeping independant journalists out we're much less likely to believe their spokespersons. after all only days ago the IDF put out similar statements about militants firing from the UN school only to subsequently correct that to "nearby" and that one of three mortar rounds had gone astray by some 30 metres.

I guess you must choose who to believe.

"there" means how many meters in Olmert's rhetoric? How can one report such unspecific distances. Can 'there' mean to Olmert and is cronies, anywhere in 'There' meanig Gaza?
"location", what location? Gaza, Gaza Strip? Gaza City? Again, muddy excuses from Olmert the child massacre ringleader.
there is no justification for firing on a UN compound, even if persons take cover.

That depends. Under international law an army can return fire if they are fired on, from a church, mosque, UN building.. I don't say this did happen.
I don't take sides but the Hamas foreign minister said Jewish children are legitimate targets for Hamas. So child murderers on both sides?

Where are the pictures of Hamas openly fighting Israeli army rather than hiding behind children?
There are two sides to this and both sides do lie, Israel and Hamas

poor olig,
???? please correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen tons of coverage inside Gaza...I just saw a special on Palestinian (sp?) ambulance drivers in Gaza??? Definitely not a telephoto lens from the Israeli side.
I think it's just journalists coming from Israel aren't allowed in.

That is typical, as is shooting from mosques and private homes.

Hamas has a huge propaganda department. They are reporting/ One Palestinian on NP is reporting from Gaza. We are getting pictures every day. Israel is limiting foreign journalists.

poor o, 30 meters is nothing for a mortar round...and for an artillery round the circular area is even higher

War is not exact. Accidents happen. Most soldiers on both sides are about 20 years old and scared.

What's so sacred to the Arabs and Muslims if they were hiding munitions in Mosques? Is the U.N. that sacrosanct to them?
I think, that's a laugh.

It is hypocritical to the extreme as is the defense of those acts by some in the media.
